Mumford Reviews
Lawrence Kasdan wrote and directed. A wonderful off-beat little tale. Surprisingly delightful
uninteresting charecters and a script with little to say.
A comedy? A think piece? An independent film? Yes, yes, and yes. The unconventional romantic comedy has a stellar cast and is very underrated. You will be glad you watched this one.
Martin Short, Jason Lee, Alfre Woodard, Zooey Deschanel along with several others in a comedy about an unusual approach to therapy directed by Lawrence Kasdan who's primarily known for a lot of George Lucas productions takes a new angle with this one Dr. Mumford is the town's best therapist but the truth is he's never practiced it in his whole life so he takes a majority of his sessions just putting up with their ramblings without giving a second thought every one of his patients sheds a mask of themselves to see what the real issues are but he has a mysterious past which everyone is unaware of of course there are those who doubt his profession and his odd methods of therapy there might be a silver lining though as his continued masquerading is actually helping improve so many people's lives plus he takes a romantic interest in one of his clients helping her see past her own problems and confronting them head-on is it morally, ethically wrong of Mumford to continue what he's doing or is it an unexpected miracle he's enriching these individuals' moments they didn't know they could have? I guess at some point we all need someone to listen to even if they are untrained professionals
Not a laugh out loud comedy, but I found myself smiling a lot. This is a very pleasant movie. There's something intriguing about almost all of the many characters, Mumford most of all. It just always seemed like I was curious about what he would say or do next, even though everything he said or did was very low key. This actor nailed his character.
Psychologist moves to small town where he opens his practice and gives advice to town locals in this forgettable comedy
Quiet, simply delightful little film about a man pretending to be a psychologist in a little town and the people he helps, including himself. Perfectly charming movie, with a wonderful cast. As usual, Hope Davis shines.
This is an example of the perfect movie. It makes you feel good while watching, the cast is the best ensamble i've seen in any movie and you feel emotionally connected to each of the characters and what they are going through. Mumford is always overloooked and if you haven't seen it and you have the opportunity to, please take it. You will enjoy it.
Unusual film with an engrossing main character who thinks he can avoid life by being an observer. Lots of stars you'd never expect show up including Jason Lee as a geek millionaire and Alfre Woodward as his love interest!
Main reason I watched this was cause its Zooey Deschanels first movie, I hadnt heard of it before or knew what it was about. It was enjoyable I guess then it gets to a kind of twist half way through thats pretty interesting, I think in the end it could have gone a heaps better way but it was alright. Weird seeing Zooey back here she looked a little different and her voice sounded weird. was good to see Jason Lee in this too.
A perfect three star film. Kind of interesting but not something to dwell much over. Who is this Mumford? Who cares ultimately?
One of the very best movies that few people know about. It's lighthearted and charming, with a little whimsy thrown in for good measure. The entire cast is a delight, particularly Loren Dean as the small town therapist who is just as much an odd ball as his clients.
Quite interesting and very well done. A decent/random cast (Jason Lee & Zooey Deschanel are so young!), some nice settings and a great heart about p[erhaps not doing everything 'right', but still being good.
