My Architect Reviews
I'm in this movie. However Rotten tomatoes has the WRONG RICHARD KATZ!!! Please fix this screwup in the cast list. Thanks
Fantastic documentary made by the son of the great genius Louis Kahn. It covers the deep flaws of his personal life and also the flaws and great successes of his working life. Kahn was a workolic who managed to find time to have two or three families on the go at once, he was a bit of a 'travelling man'. Also, a contender for the greatest architect of the 20th century.
Enlightening doc on Kahn's interesting (triple-)life and works. Being the subject's son, the documentarian is intrinsically an important piece of the story, but it quickly becomes clear how profoundly Louis Kahn affected so many others as well. Fortuitously many of these others are also quite the character themselves.
Totalmente recomendable.
My Architect is an endeering narative that is dripping with nostalgic as the filmmaker shares his enlightenment directly with the audience, creating an authentic and passionate filmmaking experience.
Sweet story aside, this movie was inaccurate. It felt like a Micheal Moore documentary with all of the edits and it some cases, it wasn't factual. Cool buildings though. I like the guy who told his son exactly what his father was, an amazing architect who still believed in architecture.
Deeply moving, the poignant and moving documentary I wanted about Louis Kahn, poet, philosopher, architect and inevitably, as a man. This one I will be looking into for strength as the years go by. Louis Kahn's spirit is alive with it!
I had just finished writing my review of this when D leaned against the keyboard, pressed something, and deleted it irreparably. Does anyone know how it's possible to do that with a single keystroke?
Finally got around to watching My Architect on Netflix Streaming. At least I now understand why the Philadelphia Historical Council shoots down 95% of our requests to permanently modify anything in our office on the 5th floor of 1501 Walnut.
The man from MIT feels this is a sorry mess and does not represent architecture or the other man at all. Shame.
This is a fascinating movie. The narrator could have been a little more interesting, but I guess you can't pick the son's voice
After visiting the Salk Institute, I watched this documentary about the architect, Louis Kahn. While he designed some lovely buildings, he was not a very good person to his multiple families. Like a lot of creative people, he was not very good at relationships. What an interesting story, though and quite a journey for his only son.
