great to watch when you've got nothing to do, but otherwise, this movie is deeply flawed and often annoying with its humor

Based on a 1960’s television series by the same name, this movie stars Jeff Daniels as an out of luck television news producer that meets an alien from Mars played by Christopher Lloyd. There are some other big names in this movie including: Daryl Hannah, Elizabeth Hurley and Wallace Shawn. So the acting is great, but the script falls flat. I had one big laugh moment in this movie and with these great comedic actors, I should have had more. The tone is inconsistent as well. This movie doesn’t seem to be targeting families as it should with the premise and comedy. Instead there are some sexual jokes, which might go over kids heads, but seemed in contrast to the rest of the movie. I’d say skip this one.

I am generally picky for updated versions of things I love. I get very nick-picky. But I love this updated version. The fact that Martin the Martian isn't human without the alien disguise gum. Something they couldn't have pulled off in the 60s show. The CGI doesn't real but it looks good. There are some character issues like Martin's talking flight suit can get really annoying. Plus, some mild taste issues. But overall, for a kid's version of a classic show. I think it's pretty great and I think fans of the classic show will enjoy it. Especially a twist at the end that I refuse to spoil.

This Disney movie was kind of good. Jeff Daniels, Christopher Lloyd, Elizabeth Hurley, Daryl Hannah, Wallace Shawn, and the rest of the cast did a good job in this movie. The plot to the movie was kind of entertaining and humorous. It's not a great movie, but it's not terrible. I kind of enjoyed it, but I don't think everyone will enjoy it. That's my opinion. I probably wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone.

Rubbish, despite a pretty good cast. 'My Favorite Martian' is an unfunny, wide of the mark 1999 release from Disney. None of the humour got laughs, or mild amusement, out from me - except one scene involving a toilet, which is marginally amusing. It also tries to join the comedy up with heart, especially between Martin and Tim, but it simply doesn't hit. There are moments where I could tell the film wanted me to care for the character(s) but I never did. It's also a surprisingly horny film, with iffy innuendo and even some inappropriate touching in there. If this was an 'American Pie' type of film then it might fit, but it feels very out of place here. Zoot (Wayne Knight) confirms those words, his dumb character is obnoxious. Knight, who is oddly uncredited, is joined by Christopher Lloyd (Martin) and Jeff Daniels (Tim). That should be a great match, but they never really click together in my opinion - a missed opportunity, for sure. Elizabeth Hurley (Brace) and Daryl Hannah (Lizzie) are also involved, though the female characters are pretty pointless - Hurley has a small part in the main plot at one point, at least. It's a no from me. Straight into the bottom ten of Disney live-action, of the ones I've seen up until '99. Perhaps fans of the original television series will enjoy this, but I didn't.

My Favorite Martian is another failed Disney high concept idea aimed at an audience that had zero to no interest in the film. The issue is the jokes are aimed at adults while the slapstick is aimed at children. There's adult themed humour that feels out of place for children. I recently reviewed Flubber and made the connection that this era of Disney was making odd live action films with no real age bracket as the target audience. I wanted to like this film but the jokes are flat and the overall story-line fails to provide any substance for the cast. Children may find something to pass the time but adults will be looking at the running time every so often. 20/07/2020

It was a pretty funny and very entertaining Disney live-action science fiction family comedy. It had very impressive special effects, really well done performances, really great music, really excellent characters, really superb cinematography, really well done costumes, really good comedy, really fun adventure, really cool action and a really good story. This is just as good as “George of the Jungle,” but I still enjoyed it. I would recommend this movie to both kids and adults.
