My Fellow Americans Reviews
Great buddy comedy that has a lot to say about politics, which still apply today.
It's actually Good! Everyhing about this is suprsingly well made. It moves at a very brisk pace and for two thirds of the time it is actually pretty smart and witty with most of the jokes getting good laughs. The issues that hold this back honestly are when they are on the road back to the White House i feels like it devolves slightly into slapstick potty humor out of nowhere that waters down everything but it pleasantly picks back up and abandons that in the last 30 minutes back to the wittiness of the first half. Garner and Lemmon have solid chemistry and it can't be understated how suprisngly witty and snappy the humor is when it isn't the dumb slapstick/potty jokes. There is a lot of charm in the performances in this. The villian is just ok and a bit forgettable and a lot of the jokes aren't visually based. This is a combination of the tone/energy of Tommy Boy with Grumpy Old Men mixed together and the result is a suprising comedy that works. If it had been more consistent in the middle it would've helped but as it is anyone who is a fan of the director, 90's comedies, or fans of any actors in this will like this. This was a suprise.
Great film. Hilarious. All these critics are completely full of shit. One of the best political comedies to ever be made.
Good writing and reliable performances by two fine comedians. Not just funny but an entertaining story with the two ex POTUSES escaping the bad guys in funny ways.
I watched that film back in 2012, and it's brilliant. Jack Lemmon and James Garner did well together, Peter Segal's amazing directing, Dan Aykroyd's performance was superb, and Laruen Bacall was great in it.
It was in my dad's dvd collection when he died... a truly dreadful film that accurately reflected his life long political acumen?
The best way to describe this movie is Grumpier Odd Presidents. Jack Lemmon and James Garner play bitter Presidential rivals. When there is a scandal about to break, Lemmon and Garner team up - and hijinks ensue. This is a fun, funny movie that manages to add action, suspense and a bit mystery. I enjoyed it. I'm sure I would enjoy watching it again and again.
The well matched cast is a blast and the it is often really funny.
This film never fails to make me laugh! Jack Lemon and James Garner bring their comedic talents to the screen and knock it out of the park!
I was gonna give 1 or 1 1/2 stars but couldn't, the movie is passable. My bf's go to movie to watch I have seen it so many times I did not see it or even hear about till he showed it to me recently. The movie got lost in the sauce for me, political humor about two presidents one republican and one democrat they can't stand one another and get stuck together doing stuff. Alright movie not my fave probably because I seen it so many times.
Loved this movie when I was young. When I watch it, I realize how much I inadvertently quote it.
Lol honestly I thought it was hilarious in fiction, but what's going in the White House right now, not so much.
My Fellow Americans is a decent film. It is about two former presidents who join forces to expose the current, corrupt President. Jack Lennon and James Garner give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Peter Segal did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the adventure and humor.
Jack Lemmon and James Garner star in the hilarious political satire My Fellow Americans. After narrowly escaping an assassination attempt former presidents and bitter rivals Kramer and Douglas team-up in order to expose a plot to cover-up a breaking political scandal. Lemmon and Garner are really good together and have great comedic chemistry. And the comedy is really well written, taking jabs at both political parties and lampooning modern political figures like Bill Clinton, Dan Quayle, and George Bush. Yet, the humor can get a little too silly and slapstick-ish at times. My Fellow Americans has some problems, but it's fun and delivers a lot of laughs.
It is higgledy-piggledy; its characters are weak, and it's only occasionally mildly amusing. There are some decent ideas here, but they are never fully realised, and even the considerable acting talent seems weighed down by the material.
Not as funny as I had hoped, but it was an OK and watchable movie. A bit unrealistic. (First and only viewing - 11/19/2016)
