National Lampoon's Vacation Reviews

Feb 4, 2025

'National Lampoon’s Vacation' is a little underwhelming, I thought it was going to be more amusing than it is, though I think there's enough to it that's worth watching. The fun ending with John Candy is what probably nudges this into the rating that I've given. Chevy Chase is at the forefront of the humour, as anticipated. I would've liked him to a bit more of a bumbling mess than he is, a more dumbed down deadpan delivery would've been more funny. He is shown as an idiot, but not as much as one as the character actually is. Beverly D'Angelo is good alongside Chase. The kid actors, which notably includes Anthony Michael Hall, are fairly solid in this movie too. The earlier mentioned Candy is alright, he has obviously done far better, and there is also an appearance from Eugene Levy, albeit a fairly tiny one.

A good and bumpy comedy flick

Not as funny as I recalled, but still a classic. Similar to Ferris Bueller, but maybe even more tongue in cheek. There are some pretty funny moments here, but one of the things that turned me off was the uneven tone - it is part goofy road trip comedy and part family dysfunction in a dark way. The way they dealt with infidelity was just horrendous, although casting Chevy Chase in a darker role was good (maybe Bill Murray could have pulled it off too, although he wasn't as big then).

Gave up after 15 minutes. This film is clearly only meant for children under 12. Slapstick and slow-pacing and not much else.

An absolute classic comedy.

It balances being raunchy, dark, and light hearted the entire way perfectly and is very much a satire of the middle american life. But more important than anything....it's hilarious. There is not one joke that didn't at least get a chuckle or a big laugh the entire way. It also is really well edited too and follows a pretty sharp and funny script. Chevy Chase nails it here and balances the dark and light hearted tone perfectly and is the best thing in this. Lots of the jokes are visually based also and while simple are set up pretty cleverly. It's the perfect balance of light heartedness and raunchy dark humor. Everyone should give this a try once.

Awesome family comedy. It holds the test of time.

National Lampoon's Vacation is a funny road trip comedy film, with plenty of quotable lines from Chevy Chase's character; Clark Griswold, and characters that you can't help but hate. It's not perfect, but it's an all around great comedy film.

The character of Clark W. Griswald is iconic. Comedic gold. This movie is infinitely watchable and remains as funny today as it was the first time I watched it.

Join the Griswolds in one of the most laughable comedies ever made. When Harold Ramis, John Huges, and Chevy Chase come together you can guarantee a gallon of laughs and substantial madness.

A true gem among early 80's comedies with a surprisingly nihilistic streak that manages to find ultimate chemistry in pairing up lead actor Chevy Chase, director Harold Ramis, and writer John Hughes. This film hits the spot in finding our main character Clark Griswold to be a lovingly misguided and ambitious head of the family rather than just sticking with the convention of having him be the straight man in a coincidentally wacky world. A witty laugh riot from start to end.

Wanna go on vacation? Maybe not after you've traveled with the Griswold family It's still considered to be the best installment in a long line of sequels Starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D' Angelo, Randy Quaid, a young Anthony Michael Hall, and the late John Candy directed by the late actor-director Harold Ramis Clark Griswold, a food additive executive plans to take the entire family to Wally World, a theme park in California with a moose mascot He drives his wife, Ellen, son Rusty, and daughter Audrey But it's not as easy as they'd hoped as they battle through a series of unfortunate circumstances like picking up another relative, visiting their cousins, putting up with a mangy dog, running out of money, their car crashes etc. Christie Brinkley makes her film debut as the girl in the red Ferrari being one of the most memorable roles of the series A very fun screwball comedy with lots of dilemmas any family can relate to taking a trip Nothing ever goes perfect and all relatives true colors start to show No doubt this captures the determination of American families to enjoy themselves but can still reach a fever pitch of delusion and callous behavior Lindsay Buckingham's memorable song Holiday Road is so catchy too How many of us have hit every conceivable speed bump, road block and unexpected problem? It's easy to project ourselves onto these characters and this timeless comedy set the standard for all road trip movies Quite a zany look at American tourism with a funny performance by Chevy Chase and continuous humor

Classic American family comedy. 7.5 / 10.

Assuredly a comedy classic, but it's also 40 years old and shows in a lot of ways. As someone with no nostalgia for this film, some sequences are borderline unbearable and certainly problematic despite its heart being in the right place. It's a staple of 80s comedies, but this is a family friendly comedy in raunchy comedy clothes. The random shots of boobs to just have some boobs, swearing outbursts when the language isn't consistent throughout the movie (makes it easy to edit for 온라인카지노추천). It's just so inconsistent. That all said, it's very silly and the performance from Chevy Chase is so funny.

It's goofy, it's hilarious, it's Vacation. 4/5

THE vacation movie of my youth. Watched it again in 2023 and it was really really sloooow. Perhaps my taste in plot has changed. This is still awesome, especially 1980's Christine Brinkley lol.

One of the great comedies of the 1980's. While nothing original, it has laugh out loud moments and the casting of Chase as Clark Griswold is perfect.
