No Looking Back Reviews
Slow moving rom-drama with charm. As far as Burns' Stories From Long Island trilogy goes (along with Brothers McMullen & She's The One) this is the biggest downer of the three. The dialogue is pretty elementary and the story isn't anything new, but that's not to say there isn't some fine performances. Ed Burns continues playing the same character and the great Blythe Danner is really underutilized, but the consistently flat Lauren Holly adds a bit more depth in her performance. The real surprise is Jon Bon Jovi, whose years as a frontman made this transition look effortless. The ladies will enjoy this one.
Very down to earth blue-collar love story involving a triangle among three friends who've known each other since grade school. The acting, even by Bon Jovi, is top notch. The story is too familiar (small town girl jilted by longtime boyfriend takes up with his best friend after the split, etc.) but the emotions play real. Much better than I thought it would be.
There isn't enough in the Ed Burns film canon. The jack of all trades brings his all to his acting roles. Unfortunately he writes his own stinker to muddle through and hiring Bon Jovi as a co-actor doesn't help particularly.
typical ed burns slow turning story is well cast. enjoyable but not one for repeat viewings, love or hate this one
Slow...but great images..music... and feelings. Have to be in a depressed mood for the full effect. :-)
A surprisingly femininity text. Quite a solid script indeed. Edward Burns is in fact better a writer than an actor, so far, till now.
Wieso tut mir Jon in diesem Streifen immer so dermassen leid? ^^ Der Film ist etwas langatmig, aber an sich ganz gut. :)
What a good cast this movie has from Ed Burns and Lauren Holly. No Looking Back gives a realistic glimpse into an everday group of friends in a small sea side town in NJ.
I'm a sucker for this movie. I love Ed Burns as an actor and director. This film also proves Jon Bon Jovi's talent goes beyond singing
Read the script and sorry to say, Eddy, but its far better on the page. Lauren Holly is just brutally awful, tho crazy hot... and the many other lousy performances just don't get the story across. I'm sorry, cuz Eddy Burns is an inspiration, but Mary Swanson's facial expression rarely changes. If 90% of directing is casting, then Burns shit the bed here.
First Ed Burns film that I've seen that I thought I would be better off forgetting and possibly getting that hour-and-a-half of my life back. Snooze. (I actually did fall asleep).
seen most of it...but it was good...stupid chik makes Jonny cry by running off w/his ugly friend...Jonny is soooo much hotter!!!
A slightly diasappointing end to Ed Burns' Long Island Trilogy, this is a sobre drama that is unfortunate to follow She's The One and The Brother's McMullen. The central relationship between Burns and Lauren Holly is interesting and well explored and Burns shows obvious affection and distaste for his surroundings and captures them to equal success. However the performance from Jon Bon Jovi is a definate sour note of the film.
