With “A Goofy Movie” celebrating its 30th anniversary, now’s a great time to either rewatch it or watch it for the first time, as well as check out this fantastic documentary, “Not Just a Goof.” Featuring interviews with “A Goofy Movie” director Kevin Lima, voice actors Bill Farmer (voice of Goofy) and Jasen Marsden (voice of Max Goof), among others, this film pays tribute to the legacy and cultural impact of “A Goofy Movie.” We get excellent behind the scenes footage and stories from the creatives involved in bringing the film to life. We learn about the challenges and struggles the film faced before and after it was released, and how “A Goofy Movie” has gone on to become a beloved classic that deserves more attention and recognition. I’m a huge fan of “A Goofy Movie,” and I highly recommend watching this documentary. Even if for whatever reasons you haven’t seen “A Goofy Movie,” I still recommend this film because it sheds excellent light on why it was so impactful to people and pop culture. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/21/25 Full Review Michael W This Disney documentary was really good. The entire crew did a fantastic job on telling the story of the making and impact of one of the greatest animated Disney movies ever, A Goofy Movie. It was a very interesting story and I was shocked to see how it's become a cult classic today. If you haven't seen this documentary yet, check it out sometime. It's a definite must see. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review matthias s **Review: *Not Just a Goof* (3.5 stars)** *Not Just a Goof* is a love letter to *A Goofy Movie*, and honestly, as someone who’s always been a fan, it hits in all the right nostalgic places. This documentary, released for the film's 30th anniversary (how has it been that long?!), is packed with behind-the-scenes footage, heartfelt interviews, and stories that made me appreciate the original even more. You can tell the people behind *Goofy* really cared—and it shows. What surprised me most? Jeffrey Katzenberg somehow becoming the villain of the whole story. Hearing how dismissively he talked about animation and *Goofy* in particular lowkey made my blood boil. The way critics initially trashed the movie feels even more absurd now, especially when you hear what it meant to the cast, crew, and fans alike. It’s clear the doc's main message is: critics be damned, the fans are the real judges—and I love that energy. It’s not a perfect doc, but it’s full of charm, nostalgia, and some genuinely emotional moments. If you’re a Disney nerd or just love film docs with heart, this is 100% worth a watch. Bonus points if *I2I* is still stuck in your head. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review Afraz H I wish I'll be the cartoon animator not just for Disney but for myself being a fan for my whole life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review Nico B Chronicling its insane production and celebrating its cult status, Not Just a Goof is a beautiful love letter to one of Disney’s most beloved cult classics that’s just as heartfelt as the movie itself! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/09/25 Full Review Andrew T Check out my review of this documentary and the video where I roast the critics who hate A Goofy Movie on my YouTube channel: Roast The Critics. Review: Of of the movies to make a documentary about, they picked my absolute favorite Disney movie, A Goofy Movie. I thought I was the only one who considers it modern Disney's greatest achievement. I thought I was the only one who was moved so deeply by the story since I was a little boy. I thought my dad was the only dad who sat down to watch it with me (he hated cartoons, but he watched this one). Apparently, there's a gigantic following that are as moved by this under-appreciated masterpiece. This documentary brought such happy tears, and confirmed that I wasn't the only one who is obsessed with this movie. I hope Disney is paying attention, because if they hope to survive another 30 years, they better recapture the magic of A Goofy Movie. I've always said they need to make a feature film about Mickey Mouse and the whole gang - in 2d animation. There's not a demographic on the planet that, if done right, it wouldn't appeal to. We don't want more expensive films. Keep the budgets modest and the stories simple. That's what we want. That needs to be the new era of movies going forward.
