What to Know

Critics Consensus

With Old Dads, Bill Burr shows signs of promise as a filmmaker -- but they're largely muffled by his fitfully funny screenplay's reliance on tired jokes about generational divides.

Audience Says

If you're a Bill Burr fan, then Old Dads' brand of culture clash comedy should be good for plenty of solid laughs.

John Anderson Wall Street Journal The writing sometimes collapses into overkill, but sometimes it is precisely on point. Oct 23, 2023 Full Review Oliver Jones Observer Rather than challenge himself, Burr instead uses the film to adapt his schtick into a three-hander bro comedy addressing the generational divide regarding modern mores and language. Audience Member This one hit close to home not only because of the aged fathers but the relatability of trying to understand the current generation. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/16/25 Full Review John G I love Bill Burr, but everyone was so ridiculously/unrealistically unfair to his character in this movie that it made it hard to watch. I get that it's supposed to be a bit farcical and make a point. And there is a bit of justice at the very end. I also think Burr's message about needing to take responsibility for how one reacts to situations (e.g., lashing out when angry versus not) is important鈥擨'm just not a fan of the "everything the main character does is wrong" trope.
