Past Lives Reviews
Horrible boring stupid terrible worst movie ever maybe
Such an original and heartfelt movie! Easily Best Picture of the Year!
Too many long, very long pauses. The story was slow. Very disappointed.
Very good movie. The acting was great but I wish it had more music to go with it instead of all the dead silence. It would have been nice to have seen her getting married instead of just talking about it.
It's a very adult love story. It addresses a plethora of real-life questions (certainly not unique to the particular situation portrayed), offering no easy answers, and refusing to pander to romantic movie tropes or racial stereotypes.
The movie was relatable. Even if you feel it’s not relatable, it will be nostalgic since it will bring you the feels from when you were younger. Great movie
Such an excellent movie! Sad, but tender, heartfelt and extremely well-paced. The story is universal, as we all carry memories from our childhood that we question how to navigate in our present lives. I discovered that this is the director's first movie. She shows tremendous promise for her future endeavors. I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to better understand their relationships with others, as well as with themselves.
There's a lot to like in this impressive directorial debut. New York City has zero appeal to me yet the cinematography here made me feel something positive about that city. It was shot on 35mm and looks incredible. My favorite thing about Past Lives is that it barely needed the PG-13 rating. If it wasn't for one scene where the f-word was used a few times, it probably could've been just PG. I can't think of another romantic drama movie like this and it's refreshing. The story takes its time and does drag on a bit too long in some places, but the end result is worth it. Great conversations can be had about commitment, communication, and trust to name a few. It really is a good story that can be quite relatable.
An excellent original screenplay. The story was good. The writing was fabulous. The mood was set perfectly, and they had my heart from the start. I even cried a bit. I would definitely recommend seeing this for anyone who loves a good feels film. Just keep in mind that a lot of it is in Korean with English subtitles.
as someone who grew up with long distance cross-globe childhood sweethearts this movie was the best stab in the heart. i loved everything about it, the acting, direction, production, editing, sound—everything was intimately crafted. thanks im devastated! (affectionate)
Finally, a Godzilla movie with great character development, a driven plot, and a frightening monster! Only took 70 years, minus one.
Loved the story and the evolved nature of the three main characters...giving each other space to be free and independent about their choices. The soundtrack is wonderful and the cinematography was super nice, too.
Great character study of real life and relationships. Life is not a romantic comedy and this was a beautiful telling of the nuances of relationships and how our choices arent always cut and dry.
What an incredible movie. The story telling, the character development and the cinematography are top notch. So happy I was able to see this in theaters before it hits streaming.
Moving, tender, beautifully shot. No sentimentality just crystal clear honest emotion carefully chiseled with as few words as possible.
Wonderful film. Solid acting, touching storyline. Cried a bit at the end. One of the best films I've seen this year.
I liked how it showed the reality in life where it's never really a fairytale like romance ending. The husband was also such a green flag and supportive person that speaks out his own opinions but in a gentle manner that's not pointing fingers at the wife but expressing himself still in a healthy, sweet way.
Sure, it’s an encapsulated look at the effects of immigration. But that’s not what broke me. There’s been alternate future movies like “Sliding Doors” but this one doesn’t let you peak into what could have been. It’s only about what was lost. And it hurts.
now THIS is an immigrant story
strong performances, loved how the camera would just linger and let the actors breathe
