Past Lives Reviews
Beautiful. Flowing, genuine, effortless acting. Heartfelt portrayal of the complex emotional landscape of being an immigrant.
Amazing movie. In my eyes, it's slow but never boring and the ending is morally right, yet the heart aches.
With so much content made these days being trash, it's so refreshing to watch a film made by grown-ups. It was mature, methodical (but not slow), and emotionally resonated. Direction was very impressive and effectively conveyed what all 3 characters were going through without relying on tricks or exposition. Great acting. Felt like real life. A really good film.
Shakespeare called. He wants his pen back.
A Beautiful portrait of "What If" and "Regrets".
The cinematography and lighting are superb.
A real life adult love story. It’s not for the average American viewer. The pace is slow, the dialog is sparse (as in most real life), the drama is minimal and the ending isn’t tied up in a nice bow. However it is sweet and relatable to almost anyone that has pondered about the “what if” when it comes to relationships.
Nothing special here. Just a normal story with nothing interesting happening. It is great if you are looking for an organic feeling and just common human relations.
a gorgeous film, that hit me very hard.
The story is so uninspired and I dont but there's something about the lack of chemistry in the dialogue that I actually couldn't care for the last quarte of the movie. Too bad cuz the music is good, the performances sell. But its just not that interesting of a story, if anything is kinda dumb at times
Excellent. Creative, thought provoking, great acting.
Film debut Celine Song adalah metafora yang kuat untuk dua diri yang ada dalam diri para imigran
I scheduled fifteen appointments with the psychologist and I still don't think it will be enough.
It was about fate, past lives and although I don't believe in these ideas, but regardless it was slow, disappointing, heartbreaking and depressing. I gave it 2 stars because it was acted well and it was done well for what it was.. I like K-Drama and movies but for this one i wish i could get back the time I used up watching this.
Although the female protagonist in the movie is Korean, the issues examined could happen in a woman who moved from a small town in Iowa to New York. There is the dislocation, adoption of a different lifestyle, if not necessarily a new language and abandonment of connections established in the formative years. Then the little boy and the girl in the beginning, meet again as almost middle aged and realize you cannot step into the same river twice. (By some tenets of Korean lore immense repetitions are possible and thus the title). Very well photographed and acted this is indeed an impressive first feature. The viewers who expected a typical American melodrama with shouting, violence, fast driving are disappointed and angrily award half a star. If you are patient enough to watch the end credits there is a reward in an excellent song by Sharon Van Etten.
Such an amazing movie for so many reasons. For starters this is the first movie I've seen that actually had 2 languages in it, usually movies just say a few lines to sound cool or show the origin of a character or have old people who refuse to speak a new language, this movie didn't do anything cheap or fake like that. It's about a Korean who moved to the states as a kid, she speaks Korean with her fellow Koreans of course but speaks English to her current lover & everyone else in New York. Okay besides that, really heartfelt & real, wasn't some fake movie love, happy story, was real emotions with what felt like real people & you just had a window into their lives while you watch everything unfold.
A truly beautiful film. I think it interesting how it comments on the parts of ourselves we are always subconsciously trying to recapture and it doesn't force the issue, it leaves a lot for the audience to interpet. Just really well done. Great cinematography and directing.
Basically Shrek. No donkey though
little bit different movie with story line throughout the years in a relationship that's not typical. things are often implied rather than shown directly and leave you with an uneasy feeling and distaste.
