This was a popular midnight movie in 1979. Well worth watching. The special effects were pretty good for being made on a thin budget. I've seen it a few times over the years. It's not horrifying or gory but there are quite a few scares along the way.

Don't know what to say about this movie...Has a very interesting story but I was not able to understand it. Filming of the movie was great.

Mesmo com o pouco orçamento, nós temos um bom design de produção, principalmente no mausoléu, que apesar de pequeno, ele foi filmado de forma que parecesse bem maior, além de ter uma estética bem bonita. Outro ponto positivo é a trilha sonora, a la Halloween e Sexta-Feira 13, usando de elementos eletrônicos e soando bem macabros. Além de acertar na direção, Coscarelli também mandou bem no roteiro. Os seus personagens são bem construídos e o Homem Alto não se tornou uma figura mais importante no terror, pois tem tudo, como uma figura que impressiona e a maneira que o ator Angus Scrimm diz os seus diálogos é bem marcante. Apesar de não ter sido bem distribuído, lucrou bastante e tem os seus fãs, como o diretor J. J. Abrahams. Talvez o filme perca público, com a sua edição, que mostra cenas sem explicação, como uma cena de um duo entre os personagens Jody e o seu amigo Reggie. Mike já é um protótipo do personagem adolescente dos anos 80. Outra marca registrada do filme é a famosa bola prateada voadora, cheia dos utensílios para matar os seus alvos. Possui bons efeitos especiais práticos, trucagens com a câmera. Fantasma é uma pérola a ser descoberta pelo público em geral.

Loved this as a teen. Thought is was spooky and had a lot of jump scares. This would be fun to see again in theater with a full house crowd.

Dumbest movie I ever saw. If I could I would give it no stars.

There are no other movie like this and it deserves its place in cult classic cinema for a reason

God I f'ing love this movie. The feel, the setting😅✨, the characters. It's a movie that truly sets a tone and vibe a la David Lynch's Twin Peaks. Dark and bleak but full of character. Made in an America long gone. 👋🤘 It does kind of get goofier and cornier as you go along but still real fun overall.

Great cinematography and just a mix of scary and bizarre in one , the Tall Man was one of the first franchise horror characters in 1979 and has several movies but this is the only one to watch besides the sequel.

A young boy named Michael starts to notice strange occurrences in his small Oregon town Many of the residents keep dying under mysterious circumstances and he finds out that the mortician has been using corpses of the dead in the cemetery as reanimated zombie servants A creative and artful and gothic horror movie It perfectly captures the terror and absurdity of childhood nightmares almost plays out like a hazy memory of a paranoid fantasy So much of the visual imagery has dreamlike sequences and vivid colors What's funny is that this makes so many references to other sci-fi stories of the era The Tall Man himself is mysterious and unsettling along with the lighting, the shadows Plus the tone of the movie are very creepy Although it's not very scary but still cool Not to mention the death spheres are slick, too Fred Myrow's synthesizer score works to great effect complimenting the complex themes throughout such as teenage fears, mourning, loss, and confronting death Mike is pretty good as the protagonist but I like his brother more since they both share that strong bond that gets them through defeating the evil mortician, in a way it might even be an exploration of a grieving child's psyche as a coping mechanism given the final scene at the end Low budget and only 89 minutes but has such imaginative dream like quality It's worth a watch after all this time even if the plot goes from mere camp to ridiculousness and the acting is stiff in spots

One of the most under rated and scariest horror movies of all time.

While I don't think Phantasm is a masterpiece, I do think it is criminally underrated.

This movie had so much cool dream like stuff like cemeterys, antique stores, and roads at night. All things I have this weird like nostalgic feeling towards despite not ever really being able to experience most of those things myself. I can't even really describe it. I just love the vibes of this movie.

Very unique and masterfully done. Still watch today at age 50. Everything about this movie is awesome!

alright; i know i'm biased because this movie was made almost 45 years ago now & movies just aren't made the same anymore... but this movie isn't good, haha. i'm surprised there's so many of them. i can give a little leeway to the special effects, but the acting is atrocious.

One of my favorite movies of all time me and my dad like it it.
