Les Amities Malefiques Reviews
Halfway interesting story about a trio of classmates, where one domineers the other two but ultimately his bravado and ego prove to be his downfall. Fine acting holds your interest in this typical french film.
one of those movies you hated watching it, but really enjoyed it nevertheless...loved the ending...love how french films capture emotions & nuances...great writing
An interesting film, but I think my disgust for the main character colored my overall rating of the film. I couldn't help but root for his ultimate humiliation.
Pretty much surprised me, since at the onset, it seemed to be typical...Life sucks, why bother. Great quote used for the central theme. Fast forwarded through a bit, thank God for subtitles, but overall a good film. I enjoyed it.
Your first thought as you watch this film is going to be, oh crap, a bunch of arrogant French artsy types in a formal and self conscious snooty-fest. But this is the perfect set up for what is really going on. We soon begin to notice that Andre, the center of this intellectual smart set, seems to be capable only of criticism. Preying on the insecurity and paranoia of his classmates and friends, Andre may claim to be making his friends stronger, but, as Alexandre later exclaims, "I think that asshole cut off our balls." Worth sticking with this one to see who, if anyone, is ultimately castrated by Andre's antics.
A truthful yet anti-climactic piece of French filmmaking about how the influence of a master manipulator can change the lives of all that surround him...
A good look into the French intellectual life. As Eloi keeps saying all through the movie, we need to ask ourselves his quest on "Why do people write?"...

Well, at least, that is how it is perceived in American movies. So, I was a bit taken back when I saw Poison Friends a French movie with the novel idea of showing students actually studying. (Say what?) The story involves an opinionated genius named Andre. The students intelligence and personality is prodigious. If brain could be flexed like muscles, hed be the big man in campus. His friends worship him, listen to his advice, and follow his suggestions. They trust him completely. Of course, just because Andre has a brilliant mind, it doesnt mean hes also good-hearted. Poison Friends slowly develops into a psychological suspense. We dont know what Andre is up to, yet we sense hes up to no good. He is a cunning liar; a manipulative schemer. He is smartly played by actor Thibault Vinçon, in an intense and mesmerizing performance. The movie has a voyeuristic approach to the unfolding of the events. Its like sitting at an academic arena and watching mind games play out. While blood might not be spilled, ego will suffer a blow.
Interesting character study set in the rarefied world of academia, this hermetically sealed, suffocating film has plenty of moments, but ultimately seems less than the sum of its parts. Intriguing and worth seeking out.
Malik Zidi est bon mais la mise en scene mal foutue desequilibre totalement le film et ca en devient lourd !
A dark and wierd world these characters live in, they all seem so naive and troubled. How can these guys look up to a guy with such bizarre philosophies. it all worked out in the end i guess. Good foreign film.
