The Presidio Reviews
I liked "The Presidio."

Unfortunately, "The Presidio" never progresses beyond its promising setup.

''The Presidio'' becomes an object lesson in the essential interchangeability of genre conventions.

Harmon... plays off the more experienced Connery and Ryan with a confidence that renders his inexperience in feature films beside the point.

Too much danger and glamour may dull your senses or make it hard to appreciate intimacy. That's what happens in "The Presidio." It's an ultra-slick, ultra-flat movie that cuts like a cellophane knife. No edge, no blood.

As usual, Hyams makes good use of the locations, and stages the stunt sequences with great skill, but his handling of the romance and father/daughter conflicts is at best uncertain, at worst embarrassing.

Boosting the story in... artificial ways, Mr. Hyams dispels any hint of believability it may have had. It doesn't help that the mystery plot seems half-baked in the end, or that none of the actors appear entirely comfortable with their roles.

Formulaic but with a few good action set-pieces.

The whole movie has the feeling of a clone, of a film assembled out of spare parts from other movies, out at the cinematic junkyard.

Harmon and Connery spend so much time nattering about the mystery, you wish they'd give you the case.
