The Presidio Reviews
The Presidio is an easy watch, mixing gorgeous widescreen 1970s-style cinematography with big, blammo '80s action.

"The Presidio" is about two law enforcement officers who don't get along but learn to respect each other as they solve a crime. Sound familiar? But unless the chemistry between the two stars works, the viewer doesn't care what happens to the characters.

The film does tend to peek from behind its formulaic framework from time to time to offer hints of real personality. But on balance, director Peter Hyams' latest is a paint-by-number job.

It would take a brash, original director to scrape the mold off Larry Ferguson's "original screenplay." Hyams is scarcely the man...

I liked "The Presidio."

Sound familiar? It should. It's the set-up for countless 온라인카지노추천 cop shows and movies during the last 20 years, minimum.

If movies were ranked like the military, The Presidio would be a hapless recruit. It just marches off in too many directions.

Hyams and screenwriter Ferguson have aspired to make more than a mismatched buddy movie. But the task has proved too intricate for them to achieve.

Unfortunately, "The Presidio" never progresses beyond its promising setup.

Connery alone is worth the price of a ticket.

''The Presidio'' becomes an object lesson in the essential interchangeability of genre conventions.

Connery and Harmon spark off each other nicely, Meg Ryan is a spirited love interest and there are solid supporting turns from Jack Warden and Mark Blum.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 6, 2021
Harmon... plays off the more experienced Connery and Ryan with a confidence that renders his inexperience in feature films beside the point.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Sep 6, 2021
Too much danger and glamour may dull your senses or make it hard to appreciate intimacy. That's what happens in "The Presidio." It's an ultra-slick, ultra-flat movie that cuts like a cellophane knife. No edge, no blood.

...the film benefits substantially from Connery's typically magnetic performance and the sporadic inclusion of unexpectedly engrossing sequences...
| Original Score: 3/4 | Jul 13, 2016
As usual, Hyams makes good use of the locations, and stages the stunt sequences with great skill, but his handling of the romance and father/daughter conflicts is at best uncertain, at worst embarrassing.

Peter Hyams' strong direction and Connery's commanding presence make this handsome-looking action-thriller worth seeing.
