The Prince of Egypt Reviews
DreamWorks Animation tried to go toe-to-toe with Disney’s 2D 1990s renaissance with The Prince of Egypt, and it wound up being one of the studio’s best films.

“Prince of Egypt” is a failure in major areas, but is breathtaking in others. It is a good start for DreamWorks, but they’ll have to try harder to eclipse the Mouse House.

A genuine masterpiece that gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. [Full review in Spanish]

The Prince of Egypt may have beautiful animation and music but in retelling the story of the Exodus, they get part of it wrong.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 13, 2022
A sweeping epic that threads a very human struggle amidst the plagues and miracles.

This story reminds me that in a world run by men and kings, there is wonder and strength in the woman, in the child, and in the slave, to change the course of history.

I love the reverent tone throughout and the incredible music

The animation is stunning.

Prince gives great emotional depth to the story...

It turns much too serious for its own good, though it otherwise is an entirely satisfying animated adventure story.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Jan 23, 2011
Well-told story that's careful not to offend.

When Moshe encounters the burning bush and confronts a God who calls Himself I Am That I Am...it is almost as if the scene compels the audience to remove their shoes for holy ground is underfoot
| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 24, 2009
The movie's proudest accomplishment is that it revises our version of Moses toward something more immediate and believable, more humanly knowable.

This is sensational cinema: crowds swarming among pyramids in eye-popping 3-D, camerawork that's distinctly Spielbergian in its fluidity.

The angular animation and muted colour palette gives the film a look more redolent of classic European cartoons than their homelier American counterparts.

The blend of animation techniques somehow demonstrates mastery modestly, while the special effects are nothing short of magnificent.
| Mar 19, 2008
Hyperactive and visually busy without being much fun.
| Original Score: C | Sep 22, 2007
As epic, emotionally satisfying spectacle, it's way up there with the very best in mainstream animation.

Much of the animation is stunning and all of the vocal performances are good to great. It's just much of the passion seems to be in not stepping on anyone's beliefs or interpretations, instead of in telling the story in the most compelling way possible.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 6, 2005
The handsomely animated Prince of Egypt is an amalgam of Hollywood biblical epic, Broadway supermusical and nice Sunday school lesson.
