Critics Consensus

Although it wastes some of the potential of its premise, Project Power is a slick, fun action thriller - and features a star-making turn from Dominique Fishback.

Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News As it is, this is a bloated movie that starts decently and loses it within 20 minutes... Rated: 1.5/4 Dec 23, 2022 Full Review Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) Project Power's veins may run thick with pure hokum. But it's hard to object to a film this serious about being silly. Rated: 4/5 Nov 22, 2020 Full Review Perri Nemiroff Perri Nemiroff (YouTube) A Dominque Fishback showcase. She's the beating heart of a film that merely coasts on the entertainment value of its high concept. Rated: 3/5 Aug 21, 2020 Full Review Bernard Ozarowski Loud and Clear Reviews Project Power is a whole mess of forgettable characters and middling action sequences that squanders a potentially interesting premise. Rated: 2.5/5 Nov 19, 2024 Full Review Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews Some action sequences might deliver what viewers are looking for, but most are packed with an incomprehensible amount of CGI, uncontrollably choppy editing, shaky camera movements, and a lack of imagination regarding the powers shown. Rated: C+ Jul 24, 2023 Full Review Dallas King Flick Feast Like a man gaining superspeed for five minutes, this interesting concept runs out of steam quickly and ultimately Project Power is one drug that doesn’t work. (ENGLISH) The premise had potential: a pill that gives you superpowers for a few minutes, with unpredictable and explosive effects. What could go wrong? Well, while the answer isn’t a total disaster, it’s not exactly a triumph either. Project Power starts with energy, backed by a strong idea and a solid cast, but it gradually loses steam. Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt do what they can, and they’re honestly not bad. The issue lies more with the script, which becomes flat, predictable, and lacks punch as the story unfolds. What initially feels like a fresh take ends up being just another action flick, full of clichés, over-the-top visuals, and cardboard villains. There are a few redeeming scenes and some interesting commentary on power as a drug or addiction, but it all feels half-baked. The film takes itself too seriously, when maybe it would’ve worked better by embracing the absurdity of its own premise. The pacing doesn’t help either—at times it drags, and eventually you stop caring about what happens to the main characters. In short: entertaining in parts, with good intentions, but poorly executed. One of those movies that’s fine for a casual watch, but forgettable right after. A missed opportunity, though at least it’s not completely boring. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review Paul S This movie was amazing! The story was gripping, and it was so much fun to watch. I definitely recommend it for action and crime fans! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review J B I don't understand the hate. I loved this film. Action, comedy, heart, great concept. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/25 Full Review millad s The story wasn't the best; it really faded away after 30 minutes into the movie. The idea was very dull and lifeless. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/25 Full Review Shane S Who didn't like this movie? Oh look...it's all white dudes. It was great. Fantastic pacing. It exceeded my expectations. Best of all, the characters weren't run of the mill action bullshit stereotypes. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Tijs v The concept is alright, but the acting is bad and the story gets dull very quickly. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Read all reviews
