Employing his signature documentary style, Frederick Wiseman investigates life at a horse racing track. Eschewing voice-over and direct address, the film follows the jockeys, trainers, owners and myriad others involved in the life of New York's Belmont Park. Additional sequences at a horse farm offer insight into the complicated breeding processes used in the creation of thoroughbreds. Intertwined throughout: the quest of the horse Pleasant Colony to win the Triple Crown.

Jay H The cool calculating style of Frederick Wiseman belies a series of images that can be appreciated as a panorama of still photos worthy of the greatest practitioners. You do not need to be a follower of horse racing to appreciate Racetrack. You only need to be curious about oddly specific corners of human endeavor. This takes the viewer to one of the oddest.
