The Reader Reviews
A wonder love affair story with a great leading performance by Kate. The ending was heartbreaking but was a great way to end the movie. Tim Treakle
Was not lord of the rings !!! GF made me watch did not have a good time, will not recommend.
Kate Winslett adds extra to any movie but she is so so complex in this movie, it really is one of her finest. The innocence of the boy and transformation is a wonderful journey and the way the plot unfolds is terrific.
the touch of this film in my time of life is magical
The Reader pushes its characters on a journey to discover the truth of life, and how to define that truth. We, the viewer, are faced with two characters in the midst of life's most challenging tribulations as Hanna and Michael go through physical and moral dilemmas to discover what are their meanings of life. This is one of the rawest, emotional convicting films I have ever seen. Thank you cast and crew for this masterpiece.
If the reason for illiteracy is not a good reason to consider Hanna a war criminal, is the reason for ending the conflict enough to drop two nuclear bombs on the heads of innocent people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Hypocritical critics sometimes have a fish's memory regarding the crimes of their countries. Shameful!!
Brilliant performance from Kate, her Oscar justifies her performance in this film
No question Kate Winslet it a terrific and versatile actress! The entire movie was really good and gives you quite the emotional rollercoaster. 😭😭😭 Easily one of the most powerful films I've ever seen.
After watching an analysis video on YouTube, I decided to purchase the movie on Apple온라인카지노추천 and watch it myself. I thought Professor Bernhard either has a great imagination, or something similar must have happened to him in order to write the book the movie is based on. Regardless either one of the two scenarios, I was drawn in by the historical elements and the romance between Michael and Hanna. (Spoiler) The movie grabbed my emotions when Hanna stood up seeking some sort of emotional affirmation from Michael at the prison. Brilliant performance from Kate, her Oscar justifies her performance in this film.
There is nothing neat in the story of the Reader. It leaps from a charming coming of age story to a steadily unfolding tragedy without any redemption. If you like happy endings, then go somewhere else. The Reader does not bother with trying to rationalise the inexplicable in human relationships. It rather portrays, the frailty of moments in time like war, the law, predictable family relationships and the irrationalities of love and passion. Beautifully shot, tightly controlled directing and great performances from a fabulous cast enhance for me what was one of my best movie experiences over the last year.
Ralph Fiennes cannot play as the age he is meant to portray. He is playing 36 when we was actually about 48, and not aging well. He looks 60. Winslet, who is supposed to be 61 when she dies, is made up to look 90. We are meant to feel pity for a nazi war criminal because she is illiterate and like books. No such person ever lived. Almost feels like it was written by a holocaust apologist.
The performances of Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes are excellent. But there's one point that can cause controversy. In order to dramatize or mystify Michael's personal relationship with Hannah, the narrative gives an excessive aura of complexity and mystery to Hannah's war crimes. This effect is reinforced by the fact that, even years after they were separated, Michael is not able to master his personal feelings and overcome the moral ambiguity he feels towards her, even knowing who she was. This becomes evident in the final scene.
I parse Kate's character and she's still immature in some ways like decision making, reasoning, Michael's maturity level turns me on, Kate's character makes this movie remarkble
The Reader script looks like written by two different people where the first part is organic and alive and the second is dull and formal. The Dostoevsky style of scrupulous analysis of the character's actions and motives is mostly absent. There are also gaping holes in the plot such as heroine's inability to read and write remained undisclosed in the court and even by her defending lawyer. In spite of the Hanna's guiltiness of being involved in the Nazis atrocities Michael's failure to establish the truth about her role is unprofessional to say the least without any attempt of explanation. Overall impression is that the story is quite shallow and is focused mostly on re-playing facts regarding the horrors of the Nazis crimes.
This movie is a real classic romantic masterpiece which is so atmospheric and melancholic. A must watch for all classic lovers
A very good film 👍🏼
Stunning. Absolutley moving acting, felt very genuine and heartfelt.
Michael, a teenager, falls in love with an older woman named Hanna. Their liaison ends when she suddenly vanishes. They meet after a decade when she goes on trial for being a Nazi guard during WWII. This is great example, of a movie that I thought was great the first time I saw it and now, it falls kind of flat for me. The first act of the movie, is by far the weakest of them all, and really starts the movie with a scratch. The movie definitely gets better, and ends on a high note, however if it wasn't for Kate Winslet her great performance and David Kross' solid performance, I would not have liked the first act at all. When the big reveal happens, the movie gets much better, like much much better. Seeing it a second time, made me really appreciate the editing for some reason, especially towards the ending of the movie. Kate Winslet is great and Ralph Fiennes is pretty solid as well. Overall not one I will see me revisiting ever. because I had to watch it for my German class.
