Renaissance Reviews
You have to keep the movie for your collection simply for it's completely original look. The story, Meh, isn't very compelling, which is sad as it would be a cult classic for a hundred years if the story wasn't bland. It's also hard to connect with characters when they are animated and not actual people. I found myself not really caring about anyone in the movie or what happened to them. The ending was a bit puzzling too. Anywho, can't erase- to one of a kind.
It's not bad at all, very good European animation. movie.
I felt like I was at the concert all over again. I cried, laughed, sang, and danced.👏🏽
A bit of an acquired taste, but once you get into it this is a pretty cool flick after all. A rich and stylish world which could withstand a sequel, and a story that seems straight out of a Raymond Chandler classic, if only Raymond Chandler knew about progeria and the gritty future of the 21st century. One gripe: there is a conflict between demands of the plot and demands of the art. The plot requires tracking which character has done what; yet, the stark pools of black-and-white make it hard to learn those same characters' faces. For me, overcoming this required some backtracking through the movie and comparing what I saw with the plot from wikipedia.
Renaissance's amazing visual style, well-done dubbing and appropriately noir atmosphere help make it stand out amongst other animated movies despite a weak by-the-numbers plot, dull script and uninteresting characters. I feel bad giving this movie 3 stars because I really wanted to like it much more but it is unfortunately let down by how boring it is when there aren't any Sin City-style action scenes. But I still think the style is what helps the movie stand out from the pack. Would've benefited from a better story but when judged as a visual experience, it definitely delivers.
DOTÉ D'UN STYLE D'ANIMATION PARTICULIÈREMENT ORIGINAL, RENAISSANCE OFFRE UN SCÉNARIO INTÉRESSANT, BIEN QU'UN PEU PRÉVISIBLE ET PLAIRA À COUP SÛR AUX AMATEURS DE FILMS NOIRS ET DE SCIENCE-FICTION TEL QUE BLADE RUNNER OU SIN CITY.
Excellent Black and White visuals for a beautiful graphic novel effect, with good quality motion capture experimentation that nevertheless seems to postdate Gollum, all at the service of a dystopian Paris noir. Very much modelled on Blade Runner, the story is fine but not surprising, and the main characters just a little too naive to make the story fully engaging. The French voices if you can get them are better than the English, but in any case I advise watching with subtitles. Some serious violence, but no nudity worth talking about.
Renaissance has a unique visual style that is more than gimmick. I give it high marks for doing something different and doing it well. Beyond that, solid voice acting from the male lead and solid animation carry the film. The plot is so-so and most of the characters are weak. Renaissance is not very dark or thrilling, but it is noir and it is definitely French. The trailer does not give much away; if you give that a look and like what you see then Renaissance is probably worth the view.
48% rotten, really? I just rewatched this after seeing part of it on 온라인카지노추천. Definitely belongs with such movie classics as Chinatown, Taxi Driver.
What's infuriating about this movie is it feels only a few tweaks away from being excellent. The black-and-white animation gives it an amazing neo-noir look that also sometimes makes it hard to tell what's going on. The animation is hyper-realistic for the most part which makes the occasional odd face movement stand out all the more. This may also be the first animated movie I've seen where I feel like a lot of the voice actors were miscast. They're giving it their all but the voices just don't seem to match the character designs. Plotwise, it sets up an intriguing story that blends the sci-fi and film noir setting with some good twists and turns that runs for just a bit too long to stay interesting. It's worth watching for its uniqueness and its often stunning visuals but it also feels like a missed opportunity in many ways.
A nice neo-noir film, with a little of Todd McFarlane and a hint of the later game "Remember me". The story is ok, performances are fine, the premise is very interesting, and everything is boosted by an artistically flawless cyberpunk enviroment.
Con su propuesta al estilo novela gráfica de Frank Miller, y sofisticada técnica de animación, Renaissance es una afortunada mezcla de film noir y filme policiaco futurista.
Very different. I loved it. The story was absorbing and it was visually fascinating. How this got such a low score, I'll never know. I just watched The Dirties, which got a high score and it was just dismally juvenile, but this was imaginative and wonderful. I'll never understand critics.
The black and white animation is the highpoint and gives the movie a nice touch of originality. The storyline is somewhat interesting as it deals with the topic of "big health care" and the power and corruption that greed drives.
The animation choice was a unique one, but perhaps one that shouldn't have been attempted. The scenery was too dark to tell who was who and what was even going on. The plot is incoherent and the director makes no attempt to have the audience get a clearer vision of what's going on.
Criticising this movie for its visual style is like criticising ice cream for having cream in it. It fulfils the aim of its ambition gloriously and without mercy. Sure, a few crying babies who want to see something more cosy and formulaic have thrown their toys out of the pram (see the critics review here) but no amount of clever comments can take away from this film's magnificence. It is perfect, uncompromising art of the kind money rarely allows to be made. Relish it, for it is a rare thing.
The graphic animation is less black and white than the predictable story. If that's at all possible.
