Cody (Adam Ryen), a boy living in the Australian outback, frees a rare golden eagle from a trap. When an evil poacher (George C. Scott) kidnaps Cody to catch the eagle, a group of local animals contacts the Rescue Aid Society in New York City, who assign their top mice, Bernard (Bob Newhart) and Bianca (Eva Gabor), to the case. To save Cody and the eagle, the agents fly to Australia on a clumsy albatross (John Candy) and enlist the help of an adventurous kangaroo rat (Tristan Rogers).

It's a far better piece of animation than the dismal Oliver and Company of 1988 and last year's smartly conceived but indifferently executed Little Mermaid. Butoy and Gabriel obviously love their medium, the first Disney directors to do so in years.

This might be my all-time favorite Disney movie. The animation for the time was spectacular and still is, specially for when Marahute and Cody were flying together in the first 10 minutes. Mc Leach is a menacing villain, which鈥檚 presence is felt as a real threat. Bernard and Bianca despite not being in the movie too much compared to The Rescuers (1977), they are still pretty solid protagonist, with Bernard having a great character growth. This movie set the standards for animation and it鈥檚 endlessly rewatch able, and enjoyable for kids and adults. Hope more people get to see this underrated masterpiece.

Synopsis
