Robin and Marian Reviews
Good chemistry between legendary stars, I liked the realistic, earthy production design, and mature sensibilities, A nice change from the normal Hollywood gloss, Also liked the surprisingly emotional climax.
This was really weak. Two big name stars can't carry the heavy load.
Pretty slow moving with a weird ending. Not a great role for Audrey Hepburn. The love story didn't really work.
A bittersweet ode to an olde romance. Very well done by Connery and Hepburn
I'm sad to say this was pretty boring. I just don't understand what the point was of jumping in time like this..some things are better left to the imagination..
Laughable dialog. Poor acting. Laughable sword play. This was a joke right?
An enticing premise, marvelous performances across the board, a robust romantic atmosphere—yet none of it quite comes together towards any cogent point, the film being less than the sum of its parts.
A terrible sendoff to the characters that waists the talent of all involved.
kind of hilarious death scene in this movie. the romantic vibe always makes me cry. altogether a lot of emotions in the movie
Enjoyable historical epic. Slightly mawkish at times, but certainly worth checking out - Connery and Hepburn are superb.
There seem to be two key things that set Robin and Marian apart from all the other films I’ve seen about Robin Hood. First of all, it doesn’t lift up the Crusades as a positive thing nor King Richard as a hero. The early scenes are dark and dismal, and that’s probably a more accurate portrayal of that point in history. But the bigger difference is that this film tells the tale of Robin’s later life, long after he became a legend in Nottingham. It’s a different way of looking at the character, and I think Sean Connery is a great actor for the role because he exudes an abundance of confidence and also a world-weariness that fits this version of Robin Hood. But the relationship drama that they wanted to place at center stage in this film is its biggest weakness. I don’t sense a lot of chemistry between Audrey Hepburn and Sean Connery, and the emotion of most scenes hinge on you caring about them as a couple. Since I wasn’t connecting with their relationship, it made some of the slow scenes feel even slower, and the end was downright odd. I applaud the writer and director for trying something different with a legendary character whose origins we’ve seen many times before on the big screen, and I did enjoy the confrontations between Robin and the Sheriff. I only wish the rest of the film had clicked for me as completely as other iterations of Robin Hood have in the past.
10% rating ... I was really hoping to like this because of Audrey Hepburn and Sean Connery, but I didn't care for the storyline.
This film is an excellent telling of the later Robin Hood story. Unlike others in the genera it is not flashy and full of youthful exuberance, it is quite and middle aged. Mind you when the swords do clash you can feel the pain, not of sword cuts and blows, but of old bones and muscles being called on to do a young mans work. Connery is, as usual, Connery, but in this film it fits, the performance is good. And as for Hepburn, her performance is wonderful. Together they epitomise what I think of as the ageing Robin and Marion. But by far the best in the film is Robert Shaw's as the Sheriff of Nottingham. So laid back and worldly wise. When you watch this film don't expect youthful swashbuckling just enjoy middle aged resignation to a long life fairly well lived.
The only Robin Hood movie I know of that is an outcome story rather than an origin story. The take on the legend is refreshing, even if the action direction left a lot to be desired.
Overcomes its mediocre script by Lester's excellent visualizations, the pleasing performances from Connery and Hepburn, and the broad comedy that underscores this tragic story.
A bit rudimentary, but the acting make up for the dreary Spanish scenery and raw 70s filming. Still it was not great in its telling, but my interest was somewhat kept despite the melodrama. Great cast as well.
Decided to watch this movie tonight on antenna tv channel. It is a different version of an older Robin and Marian but the acting by Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn and others is superb. It is a gentle and at times depressing tale but has a lot to say.
