Ruben Brandt, Collector Reviews
It is joyfully inventive and utterly strange.
| Original Score: 8/10 | Mar 24, 2021
You'll want to watch this more than once just to catch all the references. The imagery will seem familiar but like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse this movie takes familiar images and tropes and forms them into something fresh and exciting.

... even if its considerable invention lies strictly on the surface, that surface constitutes an impressively ambitious and imaginative leap...

A feast for fine art aficionados and movie buffs.

The animation is superb and unlike anything seen before.

Ruben Brandt, Collector is weird and cool and witty and seductive; I can't remember when an animated feature had this level of visual appeal for me.

I wasn't wild about it... I think it tries to be live-action a little too hard in some places.

Even if you don't know the names of every painting flashing across the screen you are aware that you are witnessing masterpieces from almost the first frame.

Thanks to a lucidly strong story with wildly free animation, Ruben Brandt, Collector is one of the most intoxicating and intelligent of animated films.

Krstic has achieved quite a lot, putting on screen a style unlike anything else seen in the year's best animated films. That the storyline in the end distracts from such an impressively drawn film may be a dealbreaker for some...or it may not.

This unclassifiable animated jewel gathers cinephile and pictorial winks to tell an accelerated story that connects with the tradition of the cinematographic serial. [Full Review in Spanish]

... uses its canvas to create a dreamlike interpretation of the varied artistic eccentricities of its subjects, supplementing a globetrotting storyline that yields a stylish visual backdrop.

[MIlorad] Krstić knows his strong points as a narrator and exploits them to the fullest. [Full review in Spanish]

There are a lot of characters to keep track of, plenty of plot points to digest and a fair amount of psycho-babble. Eventually, it all becomes too much and interest wanes.

The story and plot didn't really do it for me but the animation was pretty cool and it was engaging enough to recommend

Ruben Brandt, Collector is an intricately plotted, hyper-stylized piece of eye candy with art - the love of, the need for, the inability to escape from - at its wildly beating heart.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Mar 21, 2019
It's a post-modern heist film, full of references and short of surprises.

There's a tremendous amount of skill here, but how enjoyable it is depends at least partly on how willing you are to suspend your sense of artistic democracy, shall we say.
| Original Score: B+ | Mar 15, 2019
The first half is entertaining, though at times the storyline can feel mushed together. But when the plot really locks in, Ruben Brandt becomes a surprisingly compelling film.

Art nerds will get the most out of "Ruben Brandt, Collector," an adults-only animated thriller from Hungary whose visual imagination far outpaces its lackluster plot.
