Scary Movie Reviews

These gags are hardly the height of inspiration, but it could be that people laugh at them because they're not as pathetic as a character having a penis jabbed through his head like an ice pick.

The Wayans brothers just want to make us laugh... And for the first 20 minutes, they do. After that the gag-rate plummets, and it's a long haul to the credits.

The air of desperation is emphasised by the insistence on padding out horror-movie gags with crude Farrelly-style humour.

There's energy and glee in the movie, as if the Wayans brothers were still little boys, desperately working to out-gross each other. Naughty little boys and girls everywhere, even those who have officially grown up, will appreciate their commitment.

Scary Movie is a good showcase for a talented, youthful cast, and the film is carried with aplomb by newcomer Faris, a fearless comedian and an appealing ingnue.

Like most gag-driven farces, it's a hit or miss affair.

A movie that keeps testing just how low it can go.
