The Secret of NIMH Reviews
This film is one of Don Bluth's best.
I thought it was boring. Some of the characters lose relevance quite quickly after being introduced. The climax of the movie has no explanation whatsoever.
One of Don Bluths best films ever!!
Hugely underappreciated animated classic. The score by Jerry Goldsmith is fantastic!
Movie felt fast. Some parts didn't line up to the book and I know it's not supposed to exactly but it just felt off. Animation was good though
The Secret of NIMH is Don Bluth's best work and a true classic of animated film. The unique style, the detailed animations and the dark atmosphere make the film a fascinating experience. The dark narrative style in particular, reminiscent of *Watership Down*, casts a spell over the viewer and conveys a very characteristic feeling of suspense. However, when re-watched as an adult, the childlike subject matter loses a little of its impact. Despite this slight weakness, the film remains an outstanding work that deals with profound themes in a unique way.
"This Is An Amazing Piece Of Entertainment... Two Thumbs Up!"
A wonderful animated film for any age…TIMELESS!
I remember being slightly traumatized by The Secret of NIMH when I watched it as a small child and yet I also remember watching it multiple times. There’s something special about this movie. First of all, the animation is beautiful and intricate. Secondly, while there are a few humorous moments, this is a truly dramatic story with real suspense and tension. And third, the voice acting is well done and adds to the overall emotion of the film. To be honest, even though it’s animated, I don’t feel like The Secret of NIMH was made for kids. I’m glad I was able to watch it again from another perspective.
Rest In Peace Shannen Doherty Who Did Teresa Brisby In The Film
I heard a lot of good things about the film and the animation is lovely, but it's also very gritty, dark, and slow and a little bit overbearing with all the details squeezed in. It was kind of a depressing watch. I can't help but wonder why Bluth films tend to always lean this way, with repetitive archetypes and and late solutions to the endings but it always puts me off from watching them.
The secret of nimh is one of my favorite animated films of all time and my rating is a 10/10
No one Has ever heated of this movie I didn’t either till I was 9 And I love the actoan in it And incredible Voices and acting SHOUT OUT TO DON BLUTH
When you ask most people to name their favorite Don Bluth film they will probably say something like "The Land Before Time", "An American Tail", or even "Anastasia", but all of those pale in comparison to what I feel is his Magnum Opus- "The Secret of NIMH". This simple film of a mother going to do whatever it takes to save her sick son is spectacular. Elizabeth Hartman perfectly nails the role of Ms. Brisby as one who is scared, but becomes brave in facing the farmer's cat Dragon, going to meet the Great Owl, and even pleading with the Rats of NIMH all for the sake of her son Timmy. The score especially in the house raising scene gives me goosebumps everytime. Please Criterion give this film a 4k release!!!
"The Secret of NIMH" is a charming animated flick that deserves more recognition. With its stunning visuals, enchanting music, and thought-provoking themes, it's a movie that will leave you captivated from start to finish. Just remember, it's a film best enjoyed by the young-at-heart rather than the very young.
Spoilers! A cute but a flawed film. The first half of the film is great. The mystery, characters, and story was great. But after Mrs. Brisby met Nicodemus the film went down hill from there. Especially Mrs. Brisby. She becomes rude and selfish. It could have been a truly great film.
Its beautiful, breathtaking animation and characters, particularly Mrs. Brisby, are what truly make Don Bluth's Magnum Opus one of the late 20th century's greatest masterpieces in animation.
Definitely Don Bluth's best movie ever made. Visuals are fantastical as well as the animation looking fantastic. The voice acting is very solid. The characters are very likeable. The plot has good pacing. It has a sense of mystery and some action. It's a great adaptation based on Robert C. O'Brien's children's novel, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.
One of the best animated films of all time to be sure... on par with Walt Disney's and Hayao Miyazaki's best work. Honestly, I think Don Bluth kinda got lucky with this story, script and cast for his first theatrical feature (compared to his subsequent films... which were never quite as strong). His aesthetic is so distinct and awe-inspiring... and a little scary. It really reminded the world what an animated feature is supposed to be like.
Absolutely LOVE this movie! a huge part of my childhood, and happier times, but its not just nostalgia. It has a gorgeous musical score, great animation by Don Bluth (still his best film imo) but its darker in tone than Disney, has peril, emotional, and great voice work. Its simply a masterpiece! side note: Avoid its terrible sequel!
