La Gran Seduccin es como St. Marie-La-Mauderne: una isla perdida que intenta (y casi siempre logra) seducir con pocos recursos y mucho ingenio.

French-speaking Canada's attempt to manufacture a whimsical international crowd-pleaser in the manner of such feature-length Britcoms as 'The Full Monty.'

...all but the most cynical of viewers will find something here to enjoy.

While it begins with a whimsical, promising and slightly bawdy bit of magical realism, it turns into a familiar, conventional and sentimental underdog tale that just won't hunt.

If you enjoyed Waking Ned Devine, you'll enjoy The Seduction of Dr Lewis, a delightful film about honesty and dignity.

The best thing about Seducing Dr. Lewis is that, like the villagers, director Pouliot and writer Ken Scott seem to grow the story, and our affection for these characters, organically.

Buoyed by nostalgia for a vanishing way of life, but it's not sentimental about it.

Too faithful to the well-worn formula of mixing homegrown eccentricity with a slathering of sentiment, and it never really takes off.

Heart-warming fun it is, and heck, after getting to know its quirky people, it might not be that bad moving to Ste. Marie-la- Mauderne.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Oct 1, 2004
A film that you'll swear you've seen before in a different language and a different place.

An intelligent, script-driven, well acted, well directed little story totally devoid of special effects. If you're patient and in the mood, this is a succulent morsel.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Sep 21, 2004
Charming but overly long, a pleasant, smile-producing movie reminiscent of doing a jigsaw puzzle at a rented beach cottage on a rainy day.

Often laugh-out-loud funny.
