She Will Reviews
While I was at my local library picking out some movies I was looking for some scary movies that I hadn’t seen. I came across this one. She Will is such an unbearable and terrible watch, that I had to ask myself what did I do in this lifetime to deserve such mental torture. The movie stars, Alice Krige, Amy Mason and Malcolm McDowell. The story well, it takes such a weird turn that the special effects practically take over and it gets to the point where there is no story at all, just a bunch of abstract witchcraft imagery, and from I what I perceived perhaps some improv scenes incorporated within the film. The movie is supposedly about an old movie star who after having breast surgery goes to an isolated healing retreat with her young nurse, but get this, the cabin where she’s staying at has other guests, so she’s not isolated after all, that’s quite a turn already right? Well it might start off as a pretty good introduction but once we get to what are supposed to be are the scares and the frights is where the film turns into boredom and you start looking at your iPhone and checking maybe your calendars or what not, because this movie doesn’t keep you engaged at all. It becomes abstract in the most freaky way possibly. In one scene for instance we see nothing but Alice Krige’s character, Veronica Ghent burning up, and this goes on for what feels like a couple of minutes rather than a few seconds. Also I don’t know what the purpose was about having her go outside of the cabin at the healing retreat and go into the woods like she was possessed and commit killings with the use of spiritual evil muck from the ground and then suddenly reappearing back in her bed, I was wondering did she like, teleport back or something. To me that made zero sense. Out of all of the horror movies that I have seen recently, this one definitely is in my top 5 of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. -Bailey Giannini (Film Critic/Movie Buff)
Solid cast, intelligent writing, great cinematography and scenery/setting, positivity dripping (sometimes literally) with an atmosphere of nebulous dread. And yet I couldn’t help but feel like the film didn’t quite deliver on its promise of dark and vague foreboding in the woods, with its dreadful history of witch burnings. The progression of the relationship between the two female leads was poignant and handled well, but the eventual revelation of what amounted to a revenge tale was a bit disappointing. Still, this film has much to recommend it. I was reminded of the strange and unsettling stories of Robert Aickman, particularly in the movie’s early scenes.
Great movie. Suspenseful and atmospheric. Great acting. Forget the low ratings...I recommend it!
Must see - really fantastic cinematography and cosmology
It re-summons the 70s psychology with less visceral shock but eased unsettlingly whilst reasoning with the timely given thematic material as it creeps ominously to little, decently average impressive effect, powered by fine performative participations in one degree of inadvertent spiritual continuation. (B)
This movie SUCKS. So boring, if you like watching a product of feminist maturbation with not even a hint of creativity then watch this otherwise ignore the less than intelligent nipples who gave this 85 percent.
This might be one of the best movies I have ever seen in my entire life. 10/10.
Well, I don't know how to explain this film except that it has Alice Krige in a performance that is equally strong and vulnerable. She is the bitchy fading movie star and the traumatized young woman. The Scottish countryside provides a very dark and moody atmosphere. (amazing cinematography) So too does the real story of thousands of women being burned a century before. And how the very soil is soaked with their ashes. But more than that it is the story of how women must endure and survive in a world filled with men who abuse them. And how the power of women coming together can find a way to expose the ones who cause so much harm. .
Sweet Jebus get on with it! This movie dragged. The MC acting was great, but the story didn't go anywhere. An hour in and I switched it off.
Thank you Dario Argento for funding this beautiful NEW piece of work in a style and class that I can truly expect you would love. I did, and I'm sure your fans will as well. :) Nice, beautifully haunting piece of work with a stellar soundtrack, Serious👍
Not really an outright horror film, although there are some creepy scenes…more of a brooding supernatural / psychological thriller. According to the opening credits and other reviews, the film was given the ‘seal of approval' by the great horror maestro Dario Argento, and does share some of those vivid elements of his earlier works. Solid cast, ratcheting tension and striking visuals make for an intriguing movie if you can stick with it to the conclusion. Worth watching if you enjoy watching a slowly building psychological thriller with a touch of horror.
A touching story that visits a frequent subject with an imaginative approach .Great performances by the two lead actresses. Usage and arrangement of visuals and the special effects were the keys for the success of this story. There were characters in background that weren't really introduced to play an actual part for the story and that generated some sense of incompleteness. However emotional story and genuine performances make it a very reasonable watch. Story's social commentary on injustice is provocative and excellent. And the story being based around trauma reveals how wildest retreats are needed for some long unhealed cuts and bruises.
The beautiful set design, cinematography, and subtle acting is not enough to save this meandering revenge tale that is never as creepy as it sets out to be. The grand reveal is interesting, despite being a bit expected; and what's funny about that is that the story almost goes out of its way to be obtuse and it was still quite predictable. This isn't to say every movie must keep me on the edge of my seat or have me guessing, it's just that without that intrigue this movie amounts to very little besides its beautiful imagery. It's a witch tale that could have been fascinating, but it does so little with its intriguing premise that it feels wasteful and almost arrogant.
It was more of a tone than a movie. Great performances. But probably should have been a short film of about 30-40 minutes rather than a feature.
Visually appealing and surprisingly layered for a horror film. The maiden and the crone, revenge and redemption. Although I love Clint Mansell's music, I think it was somewhat heavy-handed and overpowered scenes that already had enough substance and intensity. That said, it's still a good film and I'd definitely recommend it to someone who enjoys subtle, thought provoking horror.
Beautiful, unsettling cinematography and soundtrack. Some scenes feel more art installation than a film
I find some of the more glowing reviews hilarious. May appeal to second year film students who think this is somehow ‘high art'. The reality is it's pretentious twaddle masquerading as something it isn't. Swerve.
Gave it try for about half of the movie, then I just completely lost interest. Nothing scary about it, the build it never happened and I could not take it anymore. Sorry, don't t recommend this movie at all.
