Sir Reviews
Acting and the writing and setting are extraordinary!! Thank you for a beautiful film!
This is a story about a young and uppity architect who is still finding himself after he cancels his wedding to a girl in the same upper middle class level. The girl, his house help, is from the lower class but she has the guts and intelligence to make it in the big city. And somehow, love will find a way. This is such a simple yet profound story of two people from different classes of society falling in love. The ending scene, which was so simple, can't give away, was perfect.
Such a buoyant and airy film, with decent camera work and location shots, thrown in. The male lead is a little wooden, however.
One of the best movies I ever saw !!! Tillotama Shome is one of the finest actress .Vivak Gomber also did a great performance !!! Great direction by Rohena Gera !!
I found this movie randomly on Netflix and I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed it.
Love the ending! Hope and love do not have boundaries for all human and this movie shows it all. Am so impressed with Tillotama Shome acting; loved her portrayal as a maid who has a strong belief in keeping up her honor.
This film is like painting in negative space. It happens in the silences, in the space between action. Beautiful. Heart wrenching.
Beautiful. Superb acting. Touching and sweet A rare find these days for films
A very simple story, led by strong performances by its lead actors, and I liked the writing as well (movie based on a rare dynamic and how people are in tough situations).
The actors pull you in with their vulnerable and subtle performances. It's a touching story with two main characters you find yourself wanting only the best for. I highly recommend watching this.
This is a fantastic movie. Although it took place in a different culture, I had no problem following the characters' dilemmas. Even in a country like the US, without such strict social hierarchies, Ratna's and Ashwin's romance would be complicated. She is poor, relatively uneducated, and unaccomplished; he is wealthy and her employer. Both of them have lost relationships they weren't particularly enthusiastic about, but nonetheless they have been profoundly affected by these relationships ending, and both of them have delayed dreams for the sake of their families. In such a circumstance, it isn't implausible to see how they might form an understanding, and with both characters being young and deeply lonely, it is easy to see how that understanding could turn into something more. But the barriers are high, and for Ratna, following her feelings for Ashwin could result in social ruin and loss of freedom, which Ashwin cannot see at first. The ending isn't a typical Disney ending, but it's much more satisfying for that. Despite the relationship being unresolved, it is a beautiful depiction of friendship and love. Ratna and Ashwin do not act the way they do for status or for physical intimacy, rather, their actions are out of true caring for the other person, and in the end Ratna and Ashwin do save each other. It is lovely to see that understanding of what love is transcends cultures. Highly recommended.
this is a story of love and rigid social structures. some critics go on and on about the patriarchy but the love story would have found similar struggles if the servant had been a man. acting, tempo and scenery are good and fit for purpose. sir is a handsome man with beautiful feet.
There are only few movies that makes me forget that I am watching a movie,,, because the film it self feels so real.....SIR is definitely in my list of all time fevorite now.... Even for being a slow pase movie, I am shock that i will watch so many more times, me and my family loved every second of it.
Some words are better left unsaid, and some worlds are better when visited. 'Sir' is one of the best films in Hindi because it uses it's words with ease to blend it into it's unique textures and romances. The magic of the film lies mostly in it's beautifully inspired coherence: there are moments of absolute charm and there are scenes of absolute love. Tilottama Shome and Vivek Gomber deliver the most uncompromised performances of their careers, and they are the best reasons why this film touches your heart and moves you with it's stinging commentary. This is one of the most woundingly emotional films I have ever seen. Rohana Gera's film is not one of those films best seen on the biggest screens. But that's where the magic lies: some tales are like small phenomenons, they occur inside your heart and leave you absolutely intrigued. This, is one of those films.
