Skin Reviews
If I had known what happens to the rottie beforehand, I would've skipped this movie. Somehow this movie just feels like a surface, cursory take on a very ugly world. Vera Farmiga is great, as usual; but the movie itself is not all that gritty.
I love the actors Jamie Bell and Daniell Mcdonald. Even though Mcdonald only has a supporting role here, the film is great. It is exciting and engaging and the message is always relevant and important.
Totally worth it ! Great acting on all fronts and a very provoking story. Tbh I found his reasoning to such a 180 change a bit ‘weak' for someone who had such strong convictions - but apparently it's what happened in real life. Overall really liked it.
Bad character development, characters flip flopping constantly. Pretentious movie trying to pass as compelling but falls flat even if based on a true story.
Although hard to bear, this thrilling drama scores with an incredible performance of Jamie Bell and the reduced but effective score by Dan Romer.
An intimate look at violence and hate and how it stems from poverty and absent parents, held together well by Jamie Bell.
Very well done. Saddening and tough to watch
Very well acted good movie.
Very moving. Best genre film since American History X.
Well written , well acted makes you think are people made to believe they are racists or are they believing in all they know?
Good flick. Interesting how former British children actors try to rebrand themselves as badass by playing white supremacists. First they had Harry Potter in Imperium and now Billy Elliot in this.
idk; this movie is kind of hard to watch, but i think that's part of the point. the message is good, the journey to get there is hard.
Bryon Widner is a white supremacist, fully embedded in the violence and hatred of the gang he runs with until the day he meets someone who opens his eyes to another life away from the hate. After making the decision to leave he realises that leaving this life behind is going to be a lot harder than he realised as he begins to udnerstand, he has not only endangered his own life but everyone around him too. I thought Skin was a brilliant story of redemption and there is a superb transformative performance from Jamie Bell at it's core. This is certainly the best performance of the lead actor's career, he completely owned this role and is a massive step away from anything else I have seen him in. The supporting cast were also spot on too, Bill Camp and Vera Farmiga as Bryon's wannabe parental figures who hold so much control over him and Danielle MacDonald and Mike Colter, playing the ones who offer him a way out.
Powerfully acted. Felt raw and real.
This short film is a haunting take on racism and a surprisingly excellent conversation piece - it got a room of more than a dozen people talking about its finer points.
A story worth telling and well-acted, it could have delved deeper into its characters but was more interested in making a statement and championing the Southern Poverty Law Center, which produced it. All dramas are human dramas, and the characters could’ve been more fully developed. Hotel Mumbai is an excellent example of a film that accomplishes both. Rated R for violence, one gratuitous sex scene and a few unnecessary shots of Jamie Bell’s bum. Love Jamie Bell but it’s best he keep his bum to himself and those who love him best.
