Skyscraper Reviews
Leaden, formulaic.

Skyscraper might be a bit hairy for someone with a fear of heights. Otherwise, it's a predictable single-hero disaster event film.

I really enjoyed it. It's complete nonsense, it's complete derivative.

The Rock's appeal is the empathy he demonstrates for one of his size. Even in the silliest of roles, he's completely sincere.

I am as well disposed to the average Rock-delivery system as the next fellow, but there are limits to the laziness even his greatest fans will allow.

Twists and turns are fine and all, but when your film doesn't really have a presence to be feared...this is the epitome of Hollywood watered-down action.
| Original Score: D+ | Jul 20, 2018
...clunky script, pedestrian dialogue and plotline overreach. I'm a fan of Johnson's, but this movie doesn't quite rise to his talents.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Jul 20, 2018
With a panache worthy of Oscar Wilde, Johnson delivers lines such as: "This is stupid!"
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 18, 2018
Along with Johnson's rippling physique and heroic fingertips, the film's chief asset is the creatively conceived title object-the very tall building.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Jul 16, 2018
Dwayne Johnson is in Peak Dad mode in Skyscraper, a movie that is sometimes thrilling, mostly boring, and possibly underwritten by the duct-tape lobby.
| Jul 16, 2018
It's gloriously silly escapism and I enjoyed it immensely.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Jul 15, 2018
The pleasures here come from watching an extraordinary physical specimen go through a lo-tech workout routine thousands of feet above the ground as he tries to rescue his family from a burning superskyscraper.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 13, 2018
As a streaming option on a slow night or a long flight, the movie has its uses. But you've seen almost all of this before, with more wit and a better villain.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Jul 13, 2018
Skyscraper itself defies gravity - and plain sense, and humour, and self-awareness, and most things even a dumb, hot-buttered blockbuster would have even a little of.
| Original Score: 1/4 | Jul 13, 2018
All "Skyscraper" has going for it is a tall building.
| Original Score: C- | Jul 13, 2018
Nice visuals, lots of action, and a script as generic as the title.
| Original Score: B- | Jul 13, 2018
So, stupid was a given. A more pertinent question might be: is it fun? And the answer is yes, although it's sometimes not quite as much fun as it should be.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jul 13, 2018
The movie is great, outlandish fun because the star makes it so; he's a soft soul in an action-hard body.
| Jul 12, 2018
Just another film that squanders the movie-star charisma of Johnson, who should consider lending his box-office clout to more worthy projects.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Jul 12, 2018
"Skyscraper" is not one of Dwayne Johnson's best. It's slow getting off the ground, and never completely achieves flight, at least not in the sense of transport.
