Sleep Reviews
The horror movie Sleep is not as intense as it first appears to be. It's more of a psychological supernatural mystery than a movie with obvious jump scares. The acting performances are effective. Just don't expect non-stop action in this atmospheric film.

what makes Sleep such a smart riff on familiar material is that it initially plays directly into our expectations, but then halfway through turns the whole thing upside down

This is a really fun, tight little thriller that accomplishes a great deal in a limited space.

The setup is creepy and intriguing even as it turns into a more domestic metaphor but it unfortunately just relies on the same old formula for a disappointing climax.

Jason Yu's Sleep is a frightening look at new love and the small setting and cast only make for a more claustrophobic and intimate horror winner.

Told in three chapters, with some very adept camerawork by cinematographer Tae-soo Kim, "Sleep" is an alluring ghost story that benefits from its parameters.

Yu stops exactly where he needs to to protect and maintain “Sleep”’s suggestive atmosphere and charming ambiguities.

Emphasizing character-driven suspense over effects-laden supernatural tropes, this tense thriller has more than enough clever twists to keep you from nodding off.

Yu understands that a potentially mentally unstable Soo-jin will match the violence of a potentially possessed Hyun-su. That's the true horror: that humanity can be just as terrifying as any malevolent spirit.

[T]he story, characters, and even the possibility of supernatural elements being at play here are grounded in a sense of unflinching realism.
