Sliver Reviews

The movie is worth watching but only for Sharons nude scenes!

Stone is gorgeous but the men are laughable. They deliver lines as if they're somewhere on the spectrum, their outdated behavior would today be considered more harassment that flirtatious. And really, what woman thinks a date to work out at the gym is appealing? Ridiculous script.

I managed to watch the entire film but it never quite got to climax and most of the story line seemed a bit all over the place. The ending by far out of any movie I’ve seen was not good. ‘Get a life’…. What?!? Read that they reshot that part so assumed that they couldn’t figure out how to wrap up the movie and so the beginning really doesn’t match the end and fell horribly flat. I will not watch this movie again and whoever gave it 4 stars on Amazon prime is nuts.

This erotic thriller set in a Manhattan skyscraper is a little bit titillating but mostly over-the-top dross.

Sliver is not exactly "intellectually" forced. It's full of unappealing characters played by actors that are usually able to uplift lackluster scripts and films. Screenplay was written by Joe Eszterhas and Ira Levin, who I assume thought that Sharon Stone's sex appeal would be enough to keep viewers glued to the screen. BASIC INSTINCT it ain't. The mystery is easy to figure out and both Baldwin and Berenger creep it up so much you want them both to get killed off. I'll say SLIVER is the worst rom-com of the 1990's, and that's hard to do.

Hahahahahahahahahaha.

I wanted to watch a Weird Sexy Thriller and boy howedy did I find one! This is one of the weirdest movies to come out of the 90s. Sharon Stone dispite being in her early 20's, plays a middle-aged women who moves into a New York High Rise Apartment that's too good to be true, and It is! Besised the fact that the women who lived in her aprtment before she did died mysteriously. (She also looks exsactly like her!!!) and what she dosn't know is that the building's mysteruouse owner is a voyer who secertly has hidden cameras instaled in all the apartments, even the bathrooms! Sharon Stone's early 90s fashion is amazing too see as well as the technology of the pre-internet erea! Her two love interests are a "young" video game designer named Zeke Hawkins, played by (Billy Baldwin) who's probably on the spectrum, and a classicly macho writer of thriller novels named Jack landsford, played by (Tom Berenger) Honistly this movie had me guessing until the very end! But Seeing William Baldwin and Sharon Stone's sex scenes were well worth the watch!

It was nice movie. Sharon Stone and Alec Baldwin has played very well.

It is not all about snakes. Or, maybe it is.

Jan 26, 2020

Quite possibly the worse movie I've ever seen. Half star because maybe they tried to be this bad. Billy Baldwin is extremely uncomfortable and is a worthless actor.

Jan 3, 2020

Absolute crap. The half star is for Tom Berenger.

Panoptic computers in a phallic high-rise and Sharon Stone as a woman of letters out of luck in love: Perhaps the "sliver" of the title refers to the amount of sense the movie ends up making?

It's an okay movie... I've seen a lot worse.

Here is a film that gets a really bad rap. Let's get real here, this is no "Citizen Kane," but it doesn't have to be. This is an erotic thriller that knows what it is and gracefully plays within the limitations of its genre. Carly Norris (Sharon Stone) is a book editor who has suffered through a bad seven-year marriage. Now, she's moving into a new apartment building while looking for something fresh and exciting. Enter Zeke Hawkins (William Baldwin), the creepily voyeuristic owner of the building who takes an immediate liking to Carly. But there's also Jack Landsford (Tom Berenger) to contend with: a sleazy novelist bordering dangerously on stalker territory. It doesn't help matters that Carly is a dead ringer for the dead woman who was the previous tenant in Carly's apartment. Both Zeke and Jack each have their fair share of secrets regarding the dead woman. The question is . . . did one of them commit murder and, if so, which one? While the eroticism isn't nearly as explicit as Stone's legendary "Basic Instinct," it's still quite arousing. Although I must admit, "Sliver" does contain one of the most unrealistic sex scenes ever filmed when Zeke the Wonder Schlong crosses a dark room, lifts up Carly's dress and artfully penetrates her from behind against a circular column quick as a bunny. Seriously . . . what an aim this guy has! Playing "poker" in the restaurant beforehand was a nice touch though. I'm not going to say Stone was at the peak of her sensuality in this film because, let's face it, folks . . . her prime was still going on when she starred in "Fading Gigolo" two decades later. She has always been one of the hottest women on this planet and director Phillip Noyce knew how to coax a genuinely steamy performance out of her. Berenger is as reliable as ever, adding a nervous energy to his portrayal of Landsford while William (affectionately known as "the other Baldwin" for much of his career) had one of his best roles in this picture. Noyce makes magnificent use of blue, purple, and black tones during some of the evening scenes. It feels close but not claustrophobic; intimate but not overwhelming. There's some nice tension sprinkled throughout which keeps things interesting. Not really edge-of-your-seat stuff, but good enough to keep the flow of the film brisk. There's even good use of UB40's cover version of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love," which would be the band's last number one single. Overall, "Sliver" isn't going to be mistaken as a masterpiece of the silver screen. But when I want a touch of titillation blended with a decent, almost noir-ish throwback, I can think of a lot worse films I could choose than this.

Sliver has a very basic premise- A young, good looking female moves into a tall building in NYC but it turns out there are a lot of skeletons hiding among the residents. Billy Baldwin is the male lead although this is Stone's film. Although the sex scenes are good there is no story to go with it. Upon looking at the wiki article I saw that the film was a financial disaster and I can see why. One needs a good foundation- a script of worth on which all the other features can stand. Sliver gets the erotic bits alright but fails to deliver a story. Still, worth a watch.

1 of the best thrillers of the 90's. i don't know what it's doing here.

Sliver is billed as an erotic thriller. It is erotic all right but there isn't much thrill in here. (Watch it for the gorgeous Sharon Stone).
