Special Reviews
One of those painfully slow and unsatisfying indie movies. Rappaport was really good, it's just that the pace and actual content made it feel much longer than its 1:25m runtime. OK that I watched once, but not for the library.
Many people have described this low budget film as a "comedy". I do not see it that way at all. Rather, this as a tragedy about a good-natured man who becomes the victim of a reckless drug experiment. The movie takes the point of view of an emotionally suffering individual who becomes unable to discern reality from his drug induced hallucinations. The film does a great job of blurring the line so we experience the psychosis along with him. It does have moments of quirkiness, but underlying it all is a sadness because we know the man is slipping away. Ultimately, through his own sure will power, he triumphs over his psychosis by "getting up" and not letting a heartless world destroy him. The movie has its flaws, but I found it captivating. The lead actor, Michael Rapaport, is excellent. The music adds an edgy flavor as well. Well done.
Totally loved it. Totally heartbreaking.
They did a good job of using a small budget to their advantage. It actually adds to the film. A bit depressing despite attempts at an uplifting message at the end. Rating: C
A film that keeps you wondering until the end as to whether or not the lead has special powers or is creating them in his mind. Obviously low budgeting and the acting slips every now and again but not bad.
This movie's quirky main character drove a story that was very memorable. We enjoyed the potential realism concept.
Rapaport playing Rapaport which means it has no value in my life. the story may have been saved if it wasnt a 3 page idea stretched into a feature length for sales purposes.
Funny. Good acting by Michael Rapaport. I Felt Sorry For The Guy. I Really Wanted Him To Really Have Powers.
Kind of a let down. I wanted to like this movie more than I really did. They had a good thing goin' but could not follow through with it.
Low budget, smartly written, with stand out performances from actors committed to their roles, this is an awesome indie film with a premise that sets up what should be a satirical take on modern society, pharma, and big business. Instead it takes us on a funny, sad, poignant ride that shows the resiliency of the human spirit and the deeply ingrained desire to matter even in the face of a crowded, anonymous, and largely indifferent world.
This movie starts off great but then it sort of disintegrates into repetition and absurdity. Not bad, but could have been better.
This rating is based on the fact I was forced to watch this with constant distractions (fatherhood) but I was quite impressed with the concept. It's an entertaining indie film about a guy who thinks that some pills have given him super powers. Michael Rapaport does a great job making you feel sympathetic towards his misguided sense of magical abilities. The storyline involving shady medical suits is also pretty good and at only 82 minutes it hardly out stays it's welcome. If I watched this again with full attention I could see this getting a higher mark.
Surprisingly interesting indie flick and great performance by Michael Rappaport. The movie drags a bit but still a fun flick.
I watched this mainly because I like Josh Peck, so I didn't have very high expectations. I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't really all that impressed either. It's an interesting enough plot, but definitely not a huge standout.
