Spiral Reviews
My god this was so boring, i kept falling asleep and when i was awake i was annoyed…
This film sent me on a downward spiral
The way it depicts queer trauma and paranoia is extremely chilling and effective, all while having a great performance from Bowyer-Chapman.
A very clever movie, that reflects on how fear can define us and make us see the world. It also emphasizes on how the fear and judgement of minorities, although not always seen on the surface, are still a big problem within society itself and probably always will be. In addition, the ending to this is something that truly shocked me. And trust me, with the amount of films I watch, that doesn't happen too often.
Started out boring and confusing since there was almost no backstory. Got a little more curious as it went on and things became more mysterious and sinister. I enjoyed the thriller part of it, but the ending was rather odd and a lot definitely went unexplained.
I actually quite enjoyed this. It was fairly intense and had me theorizing the whole time. I was questioning everything, cause I went into the movie kind of blind. I think this movie is super underappreciated!! The lead actor was phenomenal!
This movie was sloww, the ending wasn’t too bad but very little entertainment value.
If you are a saw lover and liked the series then you will enjoy this bloody gory film, if you are not then you will not. It was ok not best done but decent, wait for it streaming or DVD unless you have unlimited Regal pass, then go see it.
Was a decent addition to the Saw franchise, was pretty tense and stylish through out. It's worth seeing if you're a horror fan.
If you're a Horror/Thriller fan, this movie is a must-see. Chris Rock gives an amazing performance. He has invigorated the SAW franchise. His character is complex and he does the character justice by little nuanced actions and vocal inflections. The dialogue and story are believable and well-written. I hope Chris Rock plans on more dramatic roles in the future.
This movie had me laughing in the first 30 minutes, Chris Rock is good for laughs afterall. But what I expect from Saw series movies isn't laughter so that was a huge let down, although I did expect something like that from the casting alone. As a big fan of the saw movies throughout the years I have grown accustomed to the elaborate traps, tapes, and meanings behind everything. Spiral didn't hit that mark for me, there was minimal effort put into the traps, the meanings were there but the traps didn't exactly execute the severity behind those meanings. I felt like there was a lot of call back things happening, such as the pig masks and the tapes, (The voice on the recordings didn't elicit fear or any sort of time crunch.) The story was a bit lack luster as we have seen fake Jigsaw killers in the past and this one didn't really add anything new. The last 15 minutes did however add the intensity and excitement that I have known to love with other films so that was a huge bonus, but didn't exactly make up for all the in between times where I was bouncing my leg anxiously waiting for something to finally happen. The plot twist wasn't much of a twist, it did feel very rushed, but maybe that was due to new characters and plot points. Although, when the 'killer' goes down the elevator at the end of the movie I believe that there is no way the hoards of cops didn't see him escape so there is no way that they wouldn't catch him considering his status. The cops seeing him leave like that really doesn't open up the idea of new movies coming forth, which is a bummer but how with this movie was presented I may be happy to finally see one of my favorite series die out.
Well the movie is all about the rituals that goes on the town for evey couple who lives there and has a dark past about it. Screenplay is totally engaging with amazing character development and the thrill element will make you keep hooked & booked. It's a suspense thriller with disturbing ending but totally worth watching. The lead actors have performed brilliantly throughout the whole movie and it will keep you engaged. It's definitely worth a watch....
This was my first Shudder original, and if it was anything to go by, it'll be my last. Completely unremarkable in almost every way. It's good to see some more diversity in the genre but it's just used to push forward the tropes of cult-based horror films that have been popularly churned out the last few years.
Too many wtf and why? moments.. was close to being passable for me but it just couldn’t cross the line unfortunately
Why is Chris Rock still acting? He ruined Fargo & now helps this disaster bomb lower.
I really enjoyed the film. I think the name got some people confused expecting to watch the new SAW movie... to that I say seriously? It's a shudder original film and has a much more captivating poster than any of the saw films. I'm frustrated that this film isn't getting more recognition. Strongly recommend.
Certain aspects of the filmmaking were actually pretty solid. The plot takes a long time to get going and really start getting into the cultish aspect of the town. Plus, that wasn’t even developed much more was there much explanation behind them. No creepy reveal and no real build up. The film instead focuses on the modern social tellings that are pretty heavy handed. It could have been implemented in a different way while still being scary. Unfortunately it really doesn’t do either
I created an acount on RT just to review this movie. The worst Saw ever. They tried to make comedy everytime. The ending is rushed and predictable. Really really bad.
Pretty good film. The film is well made with a truly scary ending. I'd recommend.
Thought this was a great movie and Canadian to booot! Felt very Jordan Peele but more Like “Us” than “Get Out” in my opinion. And a bit like “Hereditary”. Suspenseful and engaging. Perfectly cast and great acting. Some little jump scares to keep you on the edge of your seat. Loved it!
