David Bianculli NPR It's enjoyable enough and fits nicely into the "Star Trek" canon. And Michelle Yeoh... never fails to entertain. Feb 21, 2025 Full Review Angelica Jade Bastién New York Magazine/Vulture It is sloppy, misguided, and frankly rote, overstuffed with concepts that it only superficially explores. Feb 7, 2025 Full Review J. Bryan Lowder Slate While it’s now unavoidably and unfortunately canon, let’s hope Section 31 was just a stumble on the way to better and bolder things. If this is what the Federation’s underbelly really looks like, I’d rather it stayed in the dark. Jan 26, 2025 Full Review Luke Y. Thompson ill LYTeracy (Substack) As pretty as the visuals are, the rest of it's fairly thin, but the fact that it's all about Michelle Yeoh makes it work. Mar 18, 2025 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers Its failings are particularly frustrating given the potential of having Georgiou — an interesting, complex character portrayed by the wonderful Yeoh — star in her own series. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Nicola Austin We Have a Hulk While Section 31 does give viewers a little more insight into the Terran Empire and their ruthless customs, the narrative oddly pivots from a strong start...to a more generic outfit unfortunately missing all the hallmark Star Trek elements. Brett D That was SO BAD I just want that hour and a half of MY LIFE BACK! Not funny...not fun! Pure garbage that should have been towed into a black hole!!! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/18/25 Full Review James P This was a huge disappointment! Even Star Trek The Motion Picture blows this one out of the water. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/12/25 Full Review Ronald M Section 31 makes Suicide Squad (2016) look like Suicide Squad (2021). There's so little Star Trek in this Star Trek movie it feels like a parody trying to skirt around it to keep from getting sued. A predictable and boring plot involving a galaxy-destroying superweapon (like we didn't get enough of those in Discovery) and poorly-written "quirky" dialogue. The best thing I can say about this movie is that I hope it opens doors for future self-contained short Star Trek stories - but I doubt that will happen. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/11/25 Full Review Michael A It started out really good and then imploded like red matter dropped in a planet. Unfortunately, the action is confusing, the plot is devastatingly like we've been hit by too many torpedoes, and besides the bold and wonderful Michelle Yeoh, the characters are childish and not worth cheering for. It's harsh, from me, and from the producers of this movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/11/25 Full Review Tanju Duman M 'm a huge Star Trek fan, but this movie is terrible. The story, the camera movements, and the overused zoom-cut editing—it all just falls flat. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/09/25 Full Review Mark S I am an avid Star Trek fan and can tolerate most things. this was the first Star Trek movie that I had to turn off after watching halfway through. it was a painful experience and frankly I was embarrassed for the people who produced it.
