Still/Born Reviews
Artfully crafted, dark, and downright freaky.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Aug 27, 2021
Still/Born ends up revelling far too much in cliché to truly standout as a worthwhile horror concerning motherhood and parenthood.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 30, 2020
Still/Born may not cleverly shake themes about like Prevenge - morphing motherhood fears into something unexpected - but that doesn't weaken messages.

Although Still/Born starts off strong... it quickly loses the run of itself once the paranormal stuff starts happening.
| Original Score: 5/10 | Oct 1, 2019
It's a bummer that this simple, effective premise is so quickly burdened with silly mythology and overwrought melodrama.

As far as independent horror films go, Still/Born is one of the better psychological tales that you will find on the market today, although this might not altogether be the case if it wasn't for our leading lady.

Director Brandon Christensen successfully constructs a thriller filled with suspense and intrigue. [Full Review in Spanish]

The closed circuit images worked in the first Paranormal Activity... But these resources are already spent. Or they are not used effectively by this new director named Brandon Christensen. [Full review in Spanish]

A subpar product that recycles elements seen thousands of times without even adding anything new. [Full Review in Spanish]

By creating a mystery rooted in more psychological terrors than supernatural ones they create a good atmosphere and some legitimately functional scares. [Full Review in Spanish]
| Original Score: 7/10 | Aug 7, 2018
The lack of depth about the origins of the evil in question and the crude development of its universe make it a disposable antagonist, with the same characteristics as any standard supernatural being. [Full Review in Spanish]

An entertaining horror film.

Still/Born has an interesting premise, but its manufacture and the development of its ideas leave much to be desired. [Full Review in Spanish]

Still/Born is a genuinely original horror movie that gives a knowing glance to Rosemary's Baby and Gaslight while offering a disarming mix of humor and scares.
| Original Score: 3/4 | May 21, 2018
An inspired-enough take on a woman's horror, where the fear of losing her other baby becomes a terror itself, as expressed through an excellent performance.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Feb 9, 2018
Works most effectively in its subtler, more enigmatic moments than when it indulges in familiar horror film conventions. Nevertheless, it does offer a consistent level of tension, a few decent scares and a terrific lead turn by Christie Burke.

Christensen and co-writer Colin Minihan mostly repeat old beats from suburban supernatural horror films like "Poltergeist" and "Paranormal Activity," but strong actors and lean, unfussy storytelling ought to be more than enough to please genre buffs.

There's enough the film does well that it wouldn't be amiss on any horror enthusiast's shelf...the thin story is boosted by the competency of everyone involved. It's just that it falls into one of the frustrating categories of film: missed opportunity.

We liked some aspects of the film, but like most viewers at the festival and in subsequent screenings from now on, it falls short of the (birth) mark.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Sep 6, 2017
Ultimately, this is an insidious and deeply unsettling focus on real issues with a supernatural twist.
