Sting Reviews

Apr 21, 2025

I had high hopes going into this one. It wasn't an ABDOLUTELY terrible movie. The effects and the spider looked good. The acting was dry, funny moments were few and far between, and it just really wasn't scary at all. It's ok for a one time watch if you've got nothing else.

Me pareció algo agradable pero he de admitir que la trama fue muy lenta, lo bueno llega hasta la parte final pero me gusto.

For a movie about a giant spider it’s frustratingly restrained. If you’re going to give me a giant killer spider, give me a giant killer spider.

Toda muy buena hasta el final tipica pelicula de terror pero de principio a medio muy buena. Una pelicula muy buena para verla con tu pareja facil.

I have a bias for B-horror, but objectively, I can say it’s worth watching. It masterfully blends moments of comedy and tension.

From the beginning, "Sting" is convincing with its setting: the snow-covered apartment block in Brooklyn is staged in an extremely atmospheric way and the setting is also exploited over the course of the film (unlike in "Evil Dead Rise", for example). The effects are convincing, CG spiders and practical corpses/slime/cocoons harmonize well together. The quirky, demented grandmother and her vampire-like sister are great characters for a film like this. The story beats are also right for a classic creature feature. The origin of the spider is also handled in an elegant and nonchalant way and I really liked it. And the fact that Sting doesn't stop at pets and babies made my broken soul grin. The film's big problem, however, is its main characters, or the family at the center of the action. Classics like "Gremlins", "Arachnophobia", "Critters" or "Tremors" prove that the focus on a family offers the audience emotional support and identification, it increases the terror and offers comic relief. Unfortunately, the daughter, father and mother are completely unsympathetic, so I just didn't care what happened to them. It's just a big mistake to make a pubescent girl the main character and then add a difficult family dynamic to it. It's just annoying. Finally, the ending is too inconsistent and generic. If you can overlook the singular threat and the annoying characters, you get some solid spider fare with a few nasty little ideas. With different characters and more creepy crawlies, I would definitely be there for "Sting 2".

A decent creature feature with an honest emotional core. It does not scare the hell out of you, but nonetheless creates enough atmosphere through its disciplined camera work. The acting itself needs to be lauded as well as the creature effects, which stay mostly practical.

Seemed like it would be a horror comedy but it took itself way too seriously with a lot of family drama. Still not bad.

The perfect running time for a movie such as this. Creepy and has some decent jumps scares. The Spider looks great!! Tim Treakle

Perhaps best avoided if you don't like spiders! A decent throwback to creature horrors of the 80s and 90s that had a mixture of scary, gross, and funny. This one is a bit light on the scares and comedy, landing more on the gross and creepy side. I found it a little slow to begin with but enjoyed the nods to The Thing, and Aliens along the way.

An intelligent and willful girl (Alyla Browne) finds a spider in her grandmother's apartment. It has a voracious appetite. Enjoyable little creature feature. I love spiders in real life but think they are some of the scariest creatures you can have in movies. I remember trembling in fear veiwing The Incredible Shrinking Man. This film isn't one of the scariest but I think there are enough riveting moments to satisfy the viewer. There's also emotional elements of family conflict and bonding that invest us into the narrative. I recommend a double feature with Infested (2023).

This one really got me. Typically the overuse of (SGI) is the #1 way to disconnect me from what's happening on scene, but what was presented on screen was so potent. The creepy was creepy, the funny was funny. The practical effects were great, the depiction of a "broken" family was authentic. The playful narrative is so well balanced making the pacing of this film pass by with ease. This Crazy Alien Spider Movie with just as much heart as fun will go down as a modern day Creature Feature Classic. I see this as Maximum Effort. Watching during a snowy January also helps. Honestly the film is in my top 3 2024 horror films and that's alongside some strong competitors. 2024 twas an amazing year of horror.

An pretty fun and sometimes grotesque creature feature that isn’t good as the director’s previous work Wyrmwood

This is a fun creature feature. The characters are interesting and funny, and the plot about the family coming together in this time of peril is has heart. The creature FX looks great, this is a scary spider!

I knew nothing about this film when I started watching it. I think the trailer would have ruined it. This is the best spider movie that I’ve ever seen, beating Arachnophobia (1990). Sting does lean much more into the horror than the comedy but the comedy is subtly present nonetheless. The family in the film feel like a real family which is a testament to how well written, cast, acted and directed this film is. The film is charming, well paced and engaging with a great sense of style. I suppose my only two gripes are the opening scene that is not chronological for no real reason and some of the spider CGI is less than perfect but these are both really minor critiques in what is an excellent spider horror with non-distracting comedy.
