Stone Reviews
Great performances - but felt a little pointless.
Didn't like it. Nothing exciting happens and I felt like I needed to shower after watching it.
I don't know how much they had to pay Milla Jovovich to do sex scenes with De Niro; but whatever she got, wasn't enough. The excruciatingly long scenes made me nearly lose my lunch. That guy should've retired decades ago, when people still thought he had talent. De Niro is the weak link in this movie. It would be much better with some other actor in the part. Unfortunately, the old fart IS in it, so watching it is a CHORE.
They want you to think deep but deliver a shallow performance.
I really enjoyed watching Stone. It's long so I watched in two sittings, but Everytime I sat down and tuned in I saw great acting with a thought provoking story. The story is deep, many references to Revelations (which is about judgment day, inter alia, in the Christian Faith). Im at an age to appreciate movies like this, not when I'm twenty something, but more for mature people who understand value in relationship, character, morals, etc cetera.
Swirling themes bog down this movie but keep you watching because life is not so clean cut, it seems to be real and going somewhere. Good acting carries the film through to examine spiritual life of America through the lens of the criminal justice system. These four characters embody that spiritual life, all are flawed, all are searching, it seems Stone was the only one who found something he was looking for. The rest are still out there, unresolved, living. It is a deliberately disturbing film about belief and for the Mistress(Mrs.) non-belief.
The movie just didn't seem to come together for me, and DeNiro's character came across as overacted and not believable.
Robert De Niro's character is not believable as a retiring parole officer who is apparently, for sone odd reason, extremely naive in dealing with inmates. Acting is good, the writing is good with the exception of De Niro's character. Kind of baffling... Will pass the time, but ends rather abruptly and unresolved to some extent.
It was pretty good with some intense scenes. I thought they needed to work on the ending though.
Norton gave one of his best performances, but you will walk away from this film not feeling particularly great about life.
THERES NO FOOL LIKE AN OLD FOOL, THIS IS NOT TAXI DRIVER, DINERO IS 72 NOWTHE FILMS PLOT IS REDICULOUS, A PAROLE OFFICER AT THE END OF HIS CAREER AGREES TO MEET THE GIRLFRIEND OF A PRISONER HE IS EVALUATING FOR POSSIBLE EARLY RELEASE. HE GOES TO HER HOME SO SHE CAN CLEANSE HIS BODY OF WI-FI SIGNALS WITH MAGNETS, THE PLOT FROM START TO FINISH IS ABOUT AS BELIEVABLE AS ELVIS DISCOVERED ON THE MOON.
The premise of this film--that a convict in prison for murdering his grandparents enlists his wife to seduce his parole officer and entice him to approve the convict's early release--is absurd enough. But I must admit that watching actors like Edward Norton and Robert DeNiro take part in such nonsense has a kind of horrible fascination to it. Milla Jovovich is absolutely despicable as the slutty, scheming wife. Overall, I don't feel good about this film, and I doubt that you will, either. The whole thing made me squirm with discomfort. I suppose that is the filmmaker's intent. Whether that qualifies as entertainment is debatable.
Bland story, lacked a surprising or meaningful ending. None of the three lead characters are inherently likeable to begin with.
Finale davvero poco interessante.
Sly, smart and ragged, this is a tale of insidious desires and deeds nibbling away at a person, until the acts start stripping them of their dignity, core beliefs - and ultimately, their life Perfectly cast, the trio are constantly engaging in corps-à-corps - one against the other; two-on-one, with poisonous effects on the quietly hopeful (yet forever tortured and tormented) fourth character - Jack's wife It's a cleverly written, and well acted Drama. Really glad I watched it!
It doesn't have the greatness of let's say The Shawshank Redemption. But like that prison epic Stone has great acting performances and life messages amid the brutality.
What a waste of time. Goodness. So glad I only saw it at home. Seems like I more work done on my cell phone while watching. Seems to a good metaphor for De Niro. Shallow, mismanaged, and in the end a dumpster fire.
