Striking Distance Reviews

Stupid loudmouth cop movie with stupid writing and plot, oh and a stupid remote control car. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. Coolest part of movie: shot in Pittsburgh on the 3 rivers, amazing. Willis has cool job as river patrol. Only 2 redeeming items in whole movie.

Underrated but loses effectiveness the second time around.

A quiet guilt free pleasure. Sure it is not the best movie in the world but it was at height of Brunos powers. Litterally the biggest movie star on the planet and with a solid supporting cast (including a clear eyed Sizemore) Bruce gives the material a bit of glint in his eye charm.

a classic thriller but one that is often judged harshly. Typical of the 90s, the film is rather pleasant

One of Bruce Willis’s worst movies ever! Striking Distance features Bruce Willis and Sarah Jessica Parker as the two leads here in a Cop/Serial Killer thriller. The only issue is this thriller of a movie is neither thrilling nor interesting. In fact it is rather cheesy and seems more like a straight to VHS tape/dvd type of film for the early 90s. There are moments when things start to get a little interesting then quickly fall apart fast. This is by no means the fault of the cast here but more the fault of the Director/Writer. If you are looking for a more entertaining action film featuring Bruce Willis then check out Die Hard. Striking Distance gets a low rating from me at 1 stars out of 5.

If you start with bad story and then let let the main character be played by a b-actor as Bruce Willis, this is what you get. The other actors don't help the movie at all.

Pittsburgh, THREE rivers! lol

Nothing you haven't seen better 100 times from Willis alone.

I grew up in Pittsburgh and the film captured the time period in which it was filmed perfectly. It displayed how this area is in fact a great place to fil : I also liked that a main character going through emotive stress can still have a heart born out in the lack of misogyny so often promoted in such heros in like minded action cop flicks and by the fact that the seemingly 'macho' guy like the character in True Grit also had a cat he loved...and if you think that is nothing I can tell as one concerned for animal welfare in this area, people started to talk about being kinder to cats (that can be very abused her over the whole macho crap) and dogs (dog fighting is an issue here & throwing kittens into dog matches) ...because everyone who watched it here saw a tough guy be gentle with and or take in and care about a cat. The film had a strong female character and love interest that at no time came off as weak or who was used to promote a sexualized form of misogyny so prominent in modern film. Again the view from all areas of the city to all other parts of the city was rich with landmarks and the unique quality that makes this city it's own special place: both light and dark, both gritty and scenically beautiful. An underrated film due in part to the leads press at the time which was leaning toward downing him if he was not in a so called masterpiece, which happens to most actors over time and at different periods in their lives. For perhaps the true main character ...the city itself... the film is worth the watch.

Bruce Willis's performance in Striking Distance is truly an asset. The overall plot, however, it should have had much importance as Bruce Willis himself.

Underrated Bruce Willis action flick from the writer/director of the "Road House," which is frequently mocked but is actually a solid popcorn film. This film isn't exactly "The French Connection" but it is an entertaining police story about Bruce as a Pittsburg river cop who's now persona non grata on the rest of the police force after testifying against his partner who then committed suicide. The main mystery of the film revolves around a series killer who Bruce was investigating before be moved to be a river cop reemerges and targets Bruce and his new partner, Sarah Jessica Parker. Although the story isn't anything special, there are some solidly directed action sequences and and cast to die for, which besides Bruce and Parker (who I liked quite a bit and thought maybe I should finally give "Sex and the City" a try) the film also features Dennis Farina, Tom Sizemore, Robert Pastorelli, Timothy Busfield, John Mahoney, Andre Braugher and a couple of my favorite character actors Brion James and Tom Atkins. And I can't be certain about this, but I think this may have been one of the last of Bruce's films to feature his real hair.

I've always been a Bruce guy and I remember this movie wasn't so bad back in the early '90s but watching it again in 2015...it's not one of his best efforts. He still brings the Bruce, but the movie just isn't that great. Dennis Farina, Tom Sizemore, and Brion James are awesome character actors as always, but between Sarah Jessica Parker's weird nose and the guy from Murphy Brown as the killer...things just fall apart. And it's set in Pittspuke on the Three Rivers. A mixed bag at best that ultimately comes up lame. I still might download "Hey, There Little Red Riding Hood" though to my iPod.

Better than most of the ratings say.

A cop is fired from the department and becomes a river rat looking for the men who framed him. Good action sequences are overshadowed by a silly plot.
