Sword of Trust Reviews
If you are a Maron fan, then you may like this movie. Otherwise, it comes across like a failed 온라인카지노추천 pilot that was pitched to TBS. How this was green lit into a movie is beyond my understanding.
Fantastic characters. Really enjoyed this film. Not a weak character in the bunch. And not only the characters but such a strong script. I am really sad the director died because she shares some genius here. The simple moments between people when they peak around the mask. Well done.
Several laugh out loud moments. Very entertaining, silly, and ridiculous. My kind of comedy.
This is quite a good film, with the 2 main performances done well by Gwyneth Paltrow and Daniel Craig. Its a sad story of course but I liked some of the prose spoken and its not too bad in terms of being a period piece. It isn't a film I'm likely to want to re-watch but it's a pretty good film otherwise - somewhat thought provoking I suppose. Yes, I would recommend it.
The dry intelligent humor and 4 main characters make this a movie worth watching. The story was original enough that you did not see what was coming (which I appreciate) but the writing toward the end (and a few of the actors along the way) were a bit hokey. Still, the movie overall is pretty good.
I like all of the characters in this low-key comedy. Not everything has to be laugh-out-loud funny to be entertaining in a comedy. I enjoyed this and recommend, as long as you understand it is muted and undersold.
Awkward and frankly, quite boring. The premise for the movie was promising, but it never seemed to get out of first gear. The "interruption dialog" style of delivering the lines was more annoying than witty and droll. The bare-teeth, slack-jawed Jon Bass character bordered on unwatchable at times. This is 90 minutes of my life I will never get back. Don't waste your time.
Marc Meron is wonderful! The movie falls short for me, though—the secondary storyline with Deirdre seems unnecessary and a little confusing at the end.
I made a rotten tomatoes account just for this movie. I've watched thousands of movies and am a pretty generous critic. I generally like all movies and usually find something good in every one. This was probably the worst movie I've ever seen. Acting, unrehearsed dialogue, ending, story, all of it. If I could give it less than one star I would. Not sure why I kept watching, maybe I was hoping for a good ending. But not even close. Everyone involved should be ashamed, as should Netflix for putting it on recommended. Do yourself a favor and stare at the grass for an hour and a half, will probably be more entertaining.
This offbeat film is great to relax & smile at while the nutty characters keep you entertained.
The story doesn't amount to much, but, if you enjoy Marc Maron, Michaela Watkins, and Gillian Bell, you'll enjoy this movie. Jon Bass is good, too.
This is timely. The situation is hysterical. The writing is intelligent and also clever. The actors are up to it and we loved it. It's not quite black humor but it's close.
Not a funny movie at all. A waste of good talent and what could've been a funny storyline. I expected so much more.
Sword of Trust has a superb premise and enough decent acting from all involved and humour to recompense for a rocky and toothless first act and an unsatisfying final act. Maron, Bell, Watkins, and Bass all do good work as an ensemble, with Maron the only one to really stand out individually in a positive manner. Shelton, may she rest in peace, directs in a manner allowing for a great deal of improvisation and natural conversational flow under the guise of allowing the characters to develop organically, and it mostly works. A few scenes seem unfunny and overlong (mostly when Bell appears to go off-kilter), but this approach draws a good deal of laughs. Sword of Trust is a simply a good indie comedy.
This is one of the most unusual and interesting films I have seen in a long time. My understanding is that much of the dialogue is improvised, which is amazing, considering how good it is; however, the story is clearly specifically crafted. This movie does a wonderful job looking at conspiracy theories and confirmation bias in the most non-threatening way possible-through comedy. Premised around Marc Maron's character's Pawn Shop this film has a very similar tone to the comedian and ground breaking podcast innovator's IFC show that bore his name. Did the South actually won the Civil War? Is there proof hidden by "The Deep State"? Is this Conspiracy even real, or just made up for this movie? It doesn't really matter. It makes a good vehicle for this film. Funny. Well acted. Interesting characters. Alabama makes a great atmosphere for this project. Maron is actually a genius trapped in a curmudgeon. The film is bittersweet because it is written and directed by Lynn Shelton, who was also Maron's real life significant other. This was Shelton's last film before she passed away suddenly. She is also in the film. That sad through-line runs through the film. See this. Have an open mind and marvel at this on many levels.
We had some good laughs & enjoyed the main actors. But overall the story line turned out to be a bit of a snooze fest. I also would take back my time if I could.
Solid film that grows on you over the course of the film. Good comedy moments and a few added layers that will surprise you and lend a solid feeling towards the end. Great characters that truly get to invest in one another where I have seen the same in polished glossy studio films try this and fail poorly seeming empty & hallow. Good ensemble comedy that carries a small message at times.
