Jake Cole Slant Magazine Suzuki Seijun鈥檚 comeback film is a key moment in the maverick director鈥檚 career. Apr 28, 2025 Full Review Douglas Davidson Elements of Madness ... turns into the kind of absurdist violence one expects from the "Branded to Kill" (1967) filmmaker as a darker, more twisted tale of obsession, celebrity, and the loss of autonomy reveals itself in progressively upsetting ways. Audience Member Criminally underappreciated. This film should be praised as one of the 'gonzo-masterpieces' as well as his major works like Branded to Kill and Zigeunerweisen. The first half might bore some audiences, but the whole second half (especially the last 40 mins) was so unconventional, powerful and trippy as hell. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member An eccentric satire about Japanese media, depressing suburban lifestyles ans housewives, etc. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review
