When John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) was a little boy, he made a wish that Ted (Seth MacFarlane), his beloved teddy bear, would come alive. Thirty years later, foul-mouthed Ted is still John's constant companion, much to the chagrin of Lori (Mila Kunis), John's girlfriend. Though Lori's displeasure is exacerbated by the pair's constant consumption of beer and weed, she's not the one who's most disappointed with John; it may take the intervention of John's boyhood toy to help him grow up at last.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Ted's "romance versus bromance" plot is familiar, but the film's held aloft by the high-concept central premise and a very funny (albeit inconsistent) script.

Deborah Ross The Spectator The greatest compliment I can pay Seth MacFarlane's Ted is that although this is essentially one of those slacker, stoner comedies, and such comedies aren't really my thing... this did make me laugh quite a bit. Sep 1, 2018 Full Review Violet Lucca Film Comment Magazine It is a film that seems to have an endless middle. Jun 28, 2013 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times There's just enough mileage in the gag to keep the movie spluttering through an energetic series of pop-cultural references and broadly staged orgies of profanity. Rated: 4/5 Aug 3, 2012 Full Review José C. Donayre Guerrero EscribiendoCine With Family Guy-style jokes and references to Springfield, the humor, based on current topics such as homosexuality, sex, and other vices... permeates all elements of the film, from comedy to romance, suspense, action and comedy. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 8/10 Mar 5, 2024 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson "Ted," while extremely funny in individual jokes here and there, suffers from that lame and predictable story, especially for something that advertises itself to be as daring. Rated: 2/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Ted becomes a character that’s more than just a plot device or source of vulgar humor; he’s one of those oddly real characters brought to life by subtle and effective special FX. J V On the downward swing of comedy movies after peaking with tropic thunder and superbad. Seems like a live action episode of family guy Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/19/25 Full Review Kevin P A pretty funny and entertaining buddy comedy that rises above its dated cliches with enough solid gags and good chemistry between Mark Wahlberg & Seth MacFarlane. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/07/25 Full Review Frans B This will become a benchmark classic for all the right reasons. Hilariously funny. Cast is just amazing in character, very good cinematography and a tall story that is cleverly and convolutedly told. Easy to believe it is the biggest original R-rated comedy ever. Seth did good here Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/04/25 Full Review Shark With A This film has probably been a yearly rewatch for me for a few years now and it still always manages to make me smile and laugh Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/25 Full Review James E The story doesn’t have time to decide how serious it wants to be, but the comedy moments are great, especially the subtle moments that you don’t expect. This is a fun time and a good laugh. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/25 Full Review Silvan P TED is a comedy movie made by Seth MacFarlane released in 2012. The main actor is Mark Walhberg. The film is about a man, John Bennett who have a magic teddy bear, Tee, he's alive. The plot may look like the plot of a children movie, but the film use alot of dark humor. The 2 principal character are each other best friend. You will see them go through alot of things but you'll still laught and cry. The actor is very convincing, he's playing the role of a silly young man having fun with he's best friend. The film message is very important for me, it tells us that friendship is a very important thing. I agree with that, that's why i like this movie. You are going to love the character, they are going to go alot of things because Ted is special. Do you think their friendship is going to crumble because of life's problem ?
