Terri Reviews
Absolutely wonderful.
| Original Score: 3.5/4.0 | Sep 26, 2020
Touching the heart and warming the soul, Terri is a soft-spoken story of hope and joy that makes the ordinary extraordinary.
| Nov 16, 2019
[Writer-director Azazel Jacobs] clearly has an eye and an ear for the confused rhythms of human life.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Jan 8, 2019
Terri examines the freakery and geekery of puberty not with Miguel Arteta's clamminess but with the serene, compassionate excruciation that's become Jacobs' distinctive timbre.
| Dec 15, 2017
What makes it good is the solidity of the scenes, something that owes both to novelist Patrick deWitt's honed scripting and the naturalistic cadence of Jacobs' direction.

Jacobs has a knack for hanging back and allowing movies to grow on you. It gathers power as it goes.

Terri is a very funny film with strong performances and equally strong direction.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Nov 11, 2013
Whereas Jacobs pre has been most concerned for the past four decades with using cinema as an instrument for exploring the mechanics and boundaries of visual perception, Jacobs fils is less a mad scientist than a misfit bard.

...An enjoyable coming-of-age film but a few of the darker sequences and the general feeling that you've seen this story before might keep it from being a larger success.
| Original Score: C+ | Jul 10, 2013
Like its eponymous protagonist, Terri sits awkwardly outside mainstream expectations, but is all the more appealing for it.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Feb 23, 2012
Terri is at least an interesting movie, though it lacks any sort of direct overcoming of the conflict, and things piddle out in the end.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Oct 28, 2011
Terri leaves an unsatisfying taste and, as memories of its moments of charm and even insight fade, it only grows bitterer.
| Oct 25, 2011
Funny and perky but unlike most Fox Searchlight films, never saccharine.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 21, 2011
A winningly understated performance from John C. Reilly and a potentially star-making turn from lead Jacob Wysocki help place Terri's firm finger on the pulse of the often senselessly cruel high school experience.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Oct 20, 2011
Terri was shot in just a couple locations on a tiny budget, but it sense of heightened reality and terrific performances make it a strangely touching story.
| Original Score: 3.5/4 | Oct 19, 2011
The film's less-than-engrossing atmosphere is compounded by Wysocki's competent yet charmless performance...
| Original Score: 2/4 | Oct 19, 2011
Lest you think that you've already seen every possible variation on the outsider-nerd story, Terri keeps plenty of surprises up its pit-stained sleeves.
| Oct 7, 2011
Crafted with care and imagined with empathy, but the nicely realized scenes don't add up to a satisfying whole.
