The Fall Reviews
I saw the film during its original run in 2007 and fell in love. The remaster brings this marvel into the modern era with enhanced audio, visuals and more. The film is plainly an art piece and leaves you hopeful for the future in the face of adversity.
Such a great movie! That little girl should have been nominated for an Oscar. Highly recommend
After watching this many times through my life it always stands out as a masterpiece to me. 🙏
Beautiful. Lee Pace and Catinca Untaru are both amazing.
This movie is absolutely stunning visually, audially (?), and emotionally. It’s also just absolutely adorable. This is perhaps the only movie I’ve ever seen in which a child actually acts like a child. She says things that don’t make sense, she gets her words mixed up, she gets emotional about the exact things that a real child would. And Lee Pace is excellent in his role, giving us an incredible stand-in father figure while slowly revealing flaws and trauma at the perfect pace. The fantasy story-within-a-story is really where this film comes alive for the senses. The gorgeous on-site locations make for an incredible backdrop of a larger-than-life Europe filled with bandits, shamans, evil politicians, and just a little extra magic everywhere you look. And the silly ways that the story gets muddied up with real-world events provides both humor and emotional depth to tie everything together. This film simply checks all the boxes and I would highly recommend it.
My favorite movie! A Cinematic masterpiece! The story within the story is astounding, but I can't even explain why without giving away spoilers. A labor of love from everyone involved.
This is a movie that made me understand why film should exist as a medium. It's a story that could never be told through a book, or a stage production, or a tv show. My heart breaks over how long this movie was unappreciated -- it's not only singularly visually breathtaking, but a beautiful story with some of the most living, breathing, believable acting that I have ever seen. A must-watch for anyone who loves story-telling. Know that the pacing is going to tighten and slacken, with gripping whirls and then slower eddies. But I wouldn't have wanted the movie to be any faster. I felt like Scheherazade's king -- loving the story and waiting not-impatiently for each coming installment, until I had totally fallen in love.
Never mind the pace, never mind the child's acting... It doesn't matter. This film is brilliant. I've seen hundreds and this one... yes, it's still my favorite.
One of my all time favorite films! So great to see it in 4K finally. The visuals are one of a kind, and the storytelling is so captivating. As an architect I loved seeing all the landmark locations that were used for filming. Truly a work of art to watch. Absolute must see!
The Fall quase conseguiu ser humano. Tarsem pode continuar sendo um dos diretores com os filmes mais deslumbrantes visualmente, mas tem que deixar mais o seu lado humano aparecer. Aqui, ele quase conseguiu.
It was too long for the plot it has, but very beautiful, original and with a meta-message of the importance of stories and cinema without CGI
The Fall is a captivating movie, with richly wrought visuals and soundtrack and with enchanting performances from the entire cast. From the magical architecture and costumes to the intricacies of the plot this movie insists on active engagement from the audience through the use of a dissonance of narrative to visual. I watch this again every few years and it is always fresh, always enthralling and always worth it. Don't let the critics put you off. David Fincher is one of the producers and this has the layered depth of his Se7en without the bleakness and the bright colour palette of the very best of Bollywood without the over the top story line. Tarsem Singh has a sure hold on the tiller and takes us on a fantastic voyage. This is a rare gem. Watch it
Gorgeous, rich imagery, great photography, fine acting. Enjoyable cinematic experience without adrenaline - just beautiful, whimsical storytelling.
Although this film has been out for over a decade and 1/2, I just had the privilege of seeing the re-release in the theater. What a joy! I am absolutely dumbfounded by some critics that found it "dull" and "uninspired" as I was taken with this movie from start to finish. The captivating sensitivity of the relationship between the girl and the man she befriends in the hospital ward juxtaposed with the grandiose visuals of the story-telling brought to life is unique and memorable. Many congrats to director Tarsem Singh and the entire cast and crew on this cinematic triumph! I am looking forward to another viewing of this film next week! FIVE STARS!
Absolutely stunning to see on the big screen. Reaffirms the need for film.
A wholesome movie dealing with a very real and serious subject. The acting and pacing were excellent and everyone was both teary eyed and laughing in the end in the theater. I suggest it.
Great movie, beautiful scenery, loved it. It would be five stars but there was one moment the story dipped for me, but five minutes later I was back in it
A dreamscape as if drawn from the eyes of the child, swimming and changing figures, captivating and operatic in a narratively simple but never simplistic beautiful trance-like world. sudden events, swirling beauty. A huge success
I have just rewatched the 4K version of it. Many films don't get much out of quality updates, but not this absolute marvel of visual work. 4K opens up its beauty even more, which I thought wasn't possible. Additionally, the story hits differently now that I have matured since 2006. I cried, I smiled, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. It is for you if: love perfect imagery, like films like Ran (1985), starved for colour, have a sensitive side.
