Don't believe the jaded film critics. The Alto Knights is an excellent film - the story and acting are superb. If you appreciate Robert DeNiro's acting, in general, you will love watching this movie. Directed by the great Barry Levinson.

Very Very Good Film. Love the narration, the editing, the Cinematography, the acting, the directing, the production design. Overall a fantastic film. The story is well written and recounts the events taking you through the 1950's 60's & 70's. Classic Mobster movie done in very good taste. Not a whole lot of explosions, gunfire, shootouts, or bloody murders. I can probably count on one hand how many people were taken out on camera. This movie is incredibly refreshing and does it's job as a well told story. it is interesting, a bit thought provoking, a history lesson, a bit funny and a little bit sad. Not a huge emotional rollercoaster, but not every movie needs to have you emotionally wound up. there seems to be a lot of bad reviews around this movie. I personally think it's because there are a lot of people that have forgotten what true cinema is, and the filmmakers that made this movie come from the golden age of film. This one could very well be one of the last of it's kind. Anyone who cherishes the art of cinema should check this out. It is a master class in creative storytelling. and Robert de Niro playing two characters was awesome. some folks said it was hard to tell them apart but I thought it was very well done and easy to distinguish. It was pretty fluid for me. Enjoy the movie!

Great movie, loved the dual roles with Deniro, and the plot moved quickly. Definitely worth going to see.

What a missed opportunity. De Niro playing both roles was so distracting ruining the good story that was there to tell. At times you couldnt tell which character it was, why they didnt put some other actor to play off of De Niro is beyond me was Joe Pesci not available?! Either way theres a good story there but this squanders it big time

Robert DeNiros waiting, talking Italian.

DeNiro gives a master class in playing a dual role. Just amazing! The two characters are so different that you forget he is playing them both. And I love a good gangster movie.

Very confusing at the start, had to keep track. There is a ton of time with DeNiro sitting in a chair talking to the audience as he plays either character. It is based on true stories so for a historical aspect, it might be worth your going.

Robert De Niro playing two roles in one film was a surprise! He is an amazing actor! All the actors in the film were amazing!

Deniro is one of one actors who can play this role. If you have a new DeNiro mafia movie itch this will definitely help you scratch it.

To be fair, Im a sucker for any mafia/mob film that possesses a certain late 70s-mid 90s aesthetic and doesnt rely on cheap violence to carry the story. I appreciate how this film checks both boxes. Like ALL films its really about the relationships but like most mob films, its very much about the actual setting, mid-century NYC. In The Alto Knights, which is based on true events, they do a wonderful job of telling their story and giving some fascinating insight into how that underworld might have really been. The characters are written well and the cast handles business. Debra Messing is a gem! Of course some the best interactions are between Mr. De'Niro and himself. (Yes, he plays two characters). That alone is probably a draw for his fans to watch this. But thankfully the dual performance doesnt come across as gimmicky. He does such a great job that after a few scenes you dont even care. Thats pretty masterful. Then again, why would anyone think that it wouldnt be? Lets keep it simple. This is Robert diNero starring in a mob film set in old New York City. Theres a certain standard that he, himself helped set eras ago. The Alto Knights crosses that threshold confidently. Its vivid, gritty, and accomplishes what all the best mob films do, humanize the criminals enough to make us root for them and envy their outlaw ethics. So any fans of the genre who think, Boy, they sure dont make em like that anymore can rest easy. Its 2025 and The Alto Knights reminds us that Yes, they do.

I enjoyed it. DeNiro did a great job of playing dual roles. I liked the use of historical images included to provide true life relevance. Conversely, a couple of the scenes with the older mobsters were a bit stilted.

Very slow, but it eventually picks up the pace and becomes thrilling when seeing all the flashbacks and the murders. Robert Deniro did a good job distincting between Vito and Frank.
