The American Reviews
The idyllic Italian scenery is gorgeous, but that's all I can say positively about this one. This mystery thriller is sleep-inducing. Not even George Clooney's charisma could save this one.
It did have a nice pace and feel to it , acting was good , but the story was lacking and I guessed the ending before it happened.
You could fast forward and miss bits and it wouldn’t matter and, really, that would be the best option…or better still- don’t bother as it just means you’ll have more of your life to do something with .
Just sex and nudity for the sake of it. Adds nothing to the story at all. Boring plot and seriously self indulgent. Could have been so much better.
I honestly thought this movie was fantastic. I was not expecting it to be this good. George Clooney is great
If you like John le Care this is ok. But it does not capture much emotion but is a restrained spy novel.
Beautifully made Polish film , script/dialogue in original english, it's an artistic masterpiece. The cinematography, editing, sound, costumes, makeup/hair...a fantastic crew of film professionals made this piece. Great acting, incredible ballet. It was a bit thin on plot because we all kinda know where it's going. But I was hooked, and impressed.
I'd youre looking to admire the directors wide shots than be my guest. If you're looking for a decently paced movie, without missing plot points, don't bother w this disappointment.
Why do directors think gratuitous nudity and sex add to the quality or purpose of the movie? The opening scene gives a shot of a woman’s nude derrière. She’s killed moments later, so she’s meaningless to the plot. Later on there’s more nudity/sex, that adds nothing to the narrative. Clooney’s character is a blank slate, and nothing is forthcoming in the first 30 minutes. The movie was so boring that I stopped watching 30 minutes in.
The key player of the movie is Abruzzo.
Slow, boring. It’s like watching Clooney stock shelves and then put together a gun. Yawn fest.
I love this movie! Great scenery
Subtle, scenery, Clooney, tight, and somehow interesting and distinct all the way to the end. In reading other reviews, it seems like the arthouse (and technical) acumen meant it was graded on a higher curve than most movies, or people simply wanted to zag. This movie was somehow even better on its second viewing.
You have to be in tune with Anton Corbijn as a Director to love this one. And that's me
Ultimately, stupid. Bad writing choices. The end is just silly.
Poorly or more likely badly promoted as an action movie which set the wrong tone for a drama. I would have liked it more if I knew it was a drama and set the right expectations. Perhaps that's also the reason why the audience score lower than the critics score.
This is one of the worst movies ever. It stole 1 hour of my life. I couldn't finish watching it.
Slow. That's almost 2 hours I'll never get back.
What a slow and steaming pile this movie is with some exeptions. Great acting from the Italian pastore and beautiful prostituta- she is something else. I'd like to see her in a few more movies. Yes, the lady hit man- she's hot too. The small town life of the villagio and beauty of Italian contryside is well presented. A blue cobbled street- now that's beautiful. Clooney is a disciplined actor- he had no way to shine here. He was more a piece of firewood in this movie. And tired of hearing the phrase "The swedes" like that's supposed to mean something.
If you enjoy well make, artsy movies then this is for you. George Clooney does a fine job of low key, simmering emotion of a troubled man. Although we don't learn much about who he works for, why he's wanted or much of anything about him, it's still enjoyable. Beautifully filmed, slow paced and depressing. My kind of movie for a cloudy day.
