The Cellar Reviews
En lo personal esta pelicula me parecio muy buena, no entiendo como a la mayoria no les gusto, quizas no entendieron las referencias
There is no horror without characters to horrify. What passes as characters in this movie are not just cardboard cutouts, but cutouts half-heartedly animated by the ghosts of actors who wish they had a better film to haunt. And who can scare a ghost? Well, not this movie.
I personally loved the movie. Great actors and actress! The mom did everything in power to find her daughter, the dad did his best to help, however it does show that sometimes parents don't know there kids and that can be bad.
This got outright laughable the last 20-30 minutes. There’s some good ideas in there somewhere but the execution is poor. Elisha Cuthbert elevates this “film” a bit and she does a good job with what she was given but that’s the best that can be said about this movie.
Shudder's investment back into the industry in recent years has meant the production of many new horror films. One of which is 2022's 'The Cellar'. SYNOPSIS: 'Keira Woods' daughter mysteriously vanishes in the cellar of their new house. She soon discovers there is an ancient and powerful entity controlling their home that she will have to face or risk losing her family's souls forever.' This film does feel like 'horror for beginners' and has the basic jump scares you'd expect from a middling film of the genre. For myself though, it felt a bit like Groundhog Day. We've been here before and we've seen all the tricks time and time again. However, ignoring all of that, this isn't a bad film at all and it's nice to see Elisa Cuthbert back on our screens. She's no longer the disobedient teen from '24' so it feels a bit odd seeing her play a mother here. Especially to a teenager. She does a decent job with the film as a whole and maybe she's found a genre she's great at working within. More please. In regards to the story itself, well once we know it's some sort of alchemical math bringing a demon into play then all bets are off. Things pick up and get a bit crazy. Chuck a bit of true mythos in there and I'm all in. Although 'The Cellar' feels like we're treading old ground this is a compelling horror film which delivers an ending of despair and dread. 7/10
It went nowhere.no explanation of how you get in or out
No, save your time, just dumb. A major slow burn that lead to a disappointment.
Another haunted house picture with all the usual symbols and equations to figure out that go along with it. Then there's the miserable teenage girl who hates mother. Bad acting. Zero chemistry between the characters, and predictable as could be!
This started out very boring, I had to fast-forward a little, cause the trope of sullen-teenager-hates-parents-especially-mom-for-making-her-move-to-a-big-creepy-house is so, so tired. And the maths made things worse cause for me maths is infinitely scarier than horror movies. What I appreciate about this film is the ending. Namely, the tone of the ending. I respect films that go with this kind of an ending.
Couldn't finish watching it, too boring.
Excellent thriller !! I liked the movie ❤️
Overall, while The Cellar isn't an overly fresh horror movie, it still has some worthy and enjoyable elements. Positives include seeing actress Elisha Cuthbert return to the horror genre and witnessing creative moments such as the large spooky house coming to life. At the same time, while the third act carries some excitement, the film ends vague and rushed. In the end, The Cellar feels familiar but still carries some entertainment for those who love a good, old-fashioned horror movie set in a spooky old mansion.
Slow burn horror with an ending worth waiting for! A drama family story that combines supernatural and science in a believable way.
At first, I saw positive reviews, so I thought I'd try it. Then I was really confused, because this was trite and just plain bad. I've seen a short based on the same trope, and the short packed a wallop. This packed tedium. Now I see reviews that are more appropriate.
Just another haunted house movie, adds nothing to the genre except the attempt of adding mathematical equations that make no sense, good idea just very poor execution.
If you like demon possession movies, The Cellar is fine, but it is not without issues. The acting is mostly okay, but there are definitely some outliers trending towards bad. The story is fine, but I don't know how I feel about math being the evil force that powers the whole narrative. The Cellar is the story of a family that moves into a house that is possessed by an ancient demon. The family isn't even allowed a night of peace in the new house as their daughter goes missing instantly. Strange things continue to happen to the family. They hear voices, see figures, and some even lose their free will through possession. The matriarch takes it upon herself to solve the mystery of what is happening to her family. Will she be able to free her family from the clutches of the Leviathan, or will she and her family be more souls added to his collection? This movie is fine. If you like horror and don't mind the acting, there are some cool things it does visually that are worth checking out. It plays around with some interesting lore and mythology, but it isn't something you should be racing to see. It is a nice addition to a horror movie marathon if you are running out of choices. I will say that after watching a few of these Shudder originals, I am impressed with the direction in which they are taking the genre. They might still be rough, but I can see some solid attempts and exploration that I can see paying off when they truly find their voice. I am curious to see them grow and hopeful that they will become a household name for horror one day. They still have some growth to do, but it is only a matter of time.
An intriguing film with an unexpected finale.
Not nearly as bad as people are saying, given the kind of movie it is. Fun just for how weird and goofy it is in some places. It kept my attention, and I've seen far worse.
