The God Committee Reviews
This movie was okay. The story is intriguing, doctors making the life or death decision as to who gets a heart transplant. The acting was good. Kelsey Grammer and Julia Stiles did a nice job. The film lost its way a little in the execution. Threads were introduced, but not resolved. But all in all it was a decent movie with good acting.

There probably are not a lot of folks that will tune in to a movie about organ transplants so, a block buster it is not. None the less, this is a very real problem in healthcare. Far more need out there than availability. I found the film believable in the delivery. Good acting from the entire cast. Go sign up to be a organ donor and do something truly benefiting others in need and just maybe, keep big money out of the picture and save a pig.
Enjoyed this more than I thought i would. Very good acting, and I learned a lot about the organ world.
The God Committee has an intriguing story about doctors making the life or death decision as to who gets a heart transplant. Kelsey Grammer and Julia Stiles did a nice job. The film lost its way a little in its execution however. Threads were introduced, but not resolved. While the story was dramatic as it relates to the role of the transplant decision committee, the individual character didn't seem to get to complete their own journeys to a satisfying enough end. That being said it was a Decent drama with two good lead actors.
It was slow and besides the good cast and great acting I didn't find much to watch. It still was good to learn the decision process behind the organ transplantation.
The casting in this movie is very smart. I haven't seen a bunch of these actors in a film in a long time (Kelsy Grammer, Janeane Garofalo, Julia Stiles) and they're all great playing characters you wouldn't expect them to. Grammer is especially fantastic as a brilliant surgeon who's broken to the core. The movie is pretty intense, but if you appreciate strong performances you will enjoy it.
I took away 1 star for the simple reason that someone thought we could be fooled into believing that Kelsey Grammar and Julia Stiles were an actual couple. Yes, you read that correctly and yes, you may commence the vomiting. How Stiles would go for this curmudgeon was a major point of distraction but otherwise, it wasn't a bad movie. Solid acting and gives you a glimpse into what probably goes on behind the scenes at hospitals. I could've done without so many time jumps into the future and left the movie inside the conference room a là 12 Angry Men but still a very interesting premise and makes you feel for people who've been passed up for transplants simply for not being rich enough or having made one bad decision in their past. *spoiler alert* Money always wins, sadly.
An intriguing drama about docs put in the impossible postion of having to choose between three heart transplant candidates when only one organ is available. Cast is excellent, especially Kelsey Grammar and Colman Domingo (who is super underrated in general). Worth seeing for their performances alone.
This was a great movie, story, acting, really suggest this, miss Julia, whats she been doing lately?
Overall a solid film. I was definitely expecting more of a thriller because of the advertising, but I'm glad I stuck with it. Premise is fresh - a group of doctors having to decide who lives and who dies. Kelsey Grammar is great in a heavy role. I don't think he's been better (very different than Frazier). The rest of the cast, an eclectic mix of famous but not household names, are also really good. As for the plot, it moves back and forth between two timelines. Slightly confusing at first, but I think it works and the film wouldn't be nearly as impactful without the time jumps. IMO, this is worth a watch as it's much better than most medical dramas.
Wow this movie was an eye opener into the heart transplant surgery and it was really good to know what goes on behind the curtain. Loved it!!!
Movie gets into the choices for the haves and have nots. I don't know how anybody could choose who lives and who dies
Grammer proves he still has the chops to act. Stiles was a pleasant surprise, but I did not by into their relationship. I found the story intriguing in a way that had me questioning what I would do in that situation. A little predictable and there is the ethics of operating on animals. Overall, a solid movie.
The stress of responsibility, the conflict of interests both self and social. The unforgiving judgement and harsher consequences. A heart beating out of time and worth. A committee who collides with all the above and pick one to live on. A masterpiece about the daily struggles and how they change the lives and attitude of Doctors.
Felt like a depressing Monday morning board meeting. This interesting and unique story - from a play by Mark St. Germain, was written and directed by newb filmmaker Austin Stark, in his second full length feature film. I haven't seen the play, but the screenplay was only just interesting, and lacking of any real real excitement, or anyone to cheer for. The pacing was too slow, and there just wasn't enough substance to make the 98 min runtime fly by effortlessly. It played well into the Medicine vs. Morality vs. Commerce conflict in the donor decision making process, but that could've easily been portrayed in a much shorter screenplay. Performances were decent, especially Kelsey Grammer and Julia Stiles (although their relationship wasn't convincing), but in general, the obvious lack of proper "cast direction" from Stark's inexperience was evident. Everyone seemed monotonic in their dialogue and body language. The cinematography I found a little bland, and the score was nothing really spectacular. Nevertheless, a decent effort and presentation by Stark. If anyone is in the medical field, or has dealt with the donor process, I'd say it's a must-see, as they'll probably appreciate it more than a general audience.
Saw this film at the end of this years Tribeca Film Festival. Well paced and compelling, the movie deals with the complicated issue of organ transplantation- how these decisions are made and how organs are allocated. The cast does a stellar job portraying the various angles and interests of the parties involved. Ethical dilemmas as well as interests both financial and practical are all out on the table as the hospital administration, doctors and medical staff all jockey for what they feel is right and just. There is a lot of ambiguity here as the film plays with whether means justify the end. Colman Domingo, Kelsey Grammar, Julia Styles, and Jeneane Garofolo all do a great job of carrying the film. What I liked most about this film above all is that is that it is very human in its execution. It creates an intricate and complicated scenario and doesn’t really tell you what to think. Highly recommend.
