The Golden Glove Reviews
It makes you sick to think this is based on a true story. The main actor's performance is the key. Sincerely repulsive
i think they do a good job of telling the story - but it's sort of just gross & depressing.
warner brothers made this? in 2019? unapologetically grimy, mean-spirited & pathetic. like throwing a handful of pine tree air fresheners atop a pile of rotting corpses. i hate that i didn’t hate this, but i certainly didn’t enjoy it.
If August Underground and Possum had a child, and that child was based on real events. Disturbing, uncomfortable, filthy, disgusting, off-putting and so damn grim that if your stomach can handle it, then you can't take your eyes off of it. Baffled to find out this is based on real events, the debauchery and horrible nature of a terrible piece of human history, the film is well-shot, well-acted and well-executed. Only recommend if you like to see closer to the extreme side of horror.
Loved it, def recommended. This film offers an intense exploration into the grim, sordid, and shockingly brutal life of Hamburg's very own, Fritz Honka. For those drawn to films depicting real-life horrific events with accurate storytelling, this is a must-see. It doesn’t get more revolting than this.
Disturbing in the best way possible. This movie made me want a shower and kept me thinking for days afterward. It feels gritty and real, more psychological than slasher.
This a a grimy and bleak human monster watch. It has a really unique setting and great acting. It made me tidy up my apartment and maybe never drink again.
Great acting, nice screenplay. Overall, really obscure, sick and realistic, exactly what i want from a serial killer movie. Reminded me of Henry: portrait of a serial killer and Angst.
Not everyones cup of tea. But if you can find beauty in grotesque, then this cake is for you my f(r)iend.
Deborah Young: Real-life serial killer Fritz Honka, who murdered and dismembered four Hamburg prostitutes in the 1970s, is profiled in Fatih Akin's graphic true-crime reconstruction. Most critics get stuck on the matter of fact to graphic violence. Which is sometimes nauseating but feels authentic. I love this depiction of Skid Row with its collection of 70 Plus alcoholics. The real problem with the movie is that instead of showing a gritty realistic View, it opts for a brightly colored well-lit Nacho Libre Style of presentation. Like the casting call was for old, out of shape , the most unattractive people in Germany. So it's not dark and scary. It's even kind of comic at times. It's definitely entertaining in a disgusting sort of way. But you don't really learn anything. And that's a bigger sin than gratuitous Gore.
The film is an adaptation of Heinz Strunk's eponymous novel and tells the story of the German serial killer Fritz Honka who murdered four women between 1970 and 1975 and hid their body parts in his apartment. "Der Goldene Handschuh" is named after the pub in the red-light district of Hamburg where the defaced alcoholic Honka met his victims. Rotten Tomatoes consensus reads, Grim to a fault, "Der Goldene Handschuh" embarks on a well-crafted but deeply unsavory descent into the depraved mind and rank brutality of a serial killer." After the premiere at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival "Der Goldene Handschuh" received mostly negative reviews. Peter Bradshaw awarded the film 2 out of 5 stars. David Ehrlich of Indiewire gave it a D and called it "disgusting" and "one of the most vile serial killer movies ever made". The film was criticized for its brutality and lack of substance and psychological depth. Fatih Akin´s "Der Goldene Handschuh" is based on the real massmurderer Fritz Honka and his strange life. This is a strong, bleak, smelly, ugly, dark and seedy film about the lower levels of life in Hamburg. Jonas Dassler is great as Fritz Honka and thumbs up for the make up. This grotesque film was apparently hated by most critics. Some German critics described it as a failed or inadequate attempt to adapt the novel and criticized Akin for making a nauseating horror film out of Strunk's artistic presentation of the events. I can agree to that it´s a hard movie to watch, but I do like that Akin is not afraid of showing the horrific parts of the story as it does add authenticity to the film in my opinion. Yes, we don´t get enough back story to Fritz Honka and his actions, I agree to that. But, as someone else said in their review, he is clearly a mentally challenged person just functional enough to support himself, and by that not falling into the hands of the authorities that might have diagnosed and treated his problems. The film was selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival. And "Der Goldene Handschuh" is the first film by Fatih Akin to receive an 18 rating in Germany.
Muy desagradable, tensa y bien dirigida. Aunque algo más rocambolesca que la historia real (que ya de por sí fue una locura). Es disfrutable, sobreotodo si os va el "real crime".
What an amazing movie. I didn't want to watch it but ultimately I was blown away by it. I'm so tired of cliched Hollywood overexplanation. This is a slice of life. I loved it.
It's HENRY: Portrait of a Serial Killer written by: Charles Bukowski. Lurid. Beautifully shot, Very well acted, and gruesome.
