The Handmaiden Reviews
Absolute cinema, best story GL ever
Masterfully done by Park Chan Wook.
The story is excellent albeit wretched. Double-crossing at its finest when Korean thieves go to Japan to trap a girl for her money.
It is a male-gazey exploitative knock off of the British mini-series, Fingersmith, based off of the novel by Sarah Waters — a real lesbian who wrote for women. This version caters to the most boring and predictable demographic of all — men.
Great plots twists and group of actors! More sexual and BDSM scenes than any movie I've seen, but not just for thrills. Moved the story along that wouldn't have worked otherwise.
ASTONISHING NEO-NOIR...decadent, delightfully disturbing, erotic, perverse, twisted, unexpected...i have to own this film for my collection
One of the greatest movies out there! Must watch from Park Chan-Wook and much better than his most famous work (aka Oldboy) in my opinion.
Well acted and directed film, story just got better and better.. Split in to 3 parts, I didn't understand the hype during Part 1 but film just kept getting better. A must see for Asian film fans
It favors certain palate heated by societal vulgarness, there’s doubtlessly underlying mastery at play if all attributions are pleasantly accepted over familiar directorial handiwork. Otherwise, its art gets distastefully threatened when the welcomed half, being the humane beauty and performative passion amid a thickening structure with unsettling imagery, only underrates this as fairly average. Twisty, dark, playful, and funny, while being visually beautiful - I can’t get over that scenery and the vibrant green colours!!! Suspenseful, well written, well structured, great performances - I was locked in the whole time. I have very little to say but this was v good and you should watch it.
Another one of my top 10. The Handmaiden holds no punches and will take you by surprise because of how well written and well performed it is. I'd go as far as saying The Handmaiden is one of the greatest screenplay of all time, it could even rival Chimatown.
Incredible movie! I really liked to duality of Sook-Hee's character shown in different segments of the film.
I found myself ensnared in a mesmerizing dance of deception and desire. With every twist and turn, I was drawn deeper into the labyrinthine web of secrets and motives that propelled the characters forward, eagerly unraveling the layers of subterfuge alongside them. Yet, amidst the gripping suspense and masterful storytelling, it was the exploration of love in its myriad forms that resonated most deeply with me. The blossoming relationship between Sook-hee and Lady Hideko unfolded with exquisite tenderness and raw emotion, each moment laden with the weight of societal expectations and the yearning for connection.
CINE SEÑORES VERDADERO CINE
Mind blowing plot twist one after another. The visual representation, cinematography, the setting everything about this movie is a masterpiece. The best film ever made. Two actresses I'm speechless their performance.
This is easily one of the greatest films ever made. The shots were superb. Highly elevated erotic thriller with plenty of twists you can't see coming. Chan wook cements himself as one of the greatest living directors.
Good twist! Sex scenes were really well done
"Spellbindingly beautiful."
