The House of Tomorrow Reviews
Fine but not especially inspired. Still, seeing this gifted group of actors together, making the most of a fairly pedestrian screenplay, is enjoyable enough.

The film has its heart in the right place. However, even at 85 minutes, it becomes a slog to get through the myriad of cliches.
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Oct 30, 2018
The film features a wonderful cast that delivers heartfelt performances. Butterfield and Wolff drive the film. Offerman is at his best as the humane parent, and Burstyn is suburb as the gentle but inflexible eccentric grandmother.

If ever a film were made for someone like me, whose passions involve movies/architecture/design/real estate, The House of Tomorrow is it. It's a thoughtful coming-of-age tale.

The House of Tomorrow may not win many points for originality as far as the coming of age genre is concerned, but it manages to overcome its familiar plot devices through the intriguing relationship at its heart and its remarkable cast.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Aug 13, 2018
It's an emotionally satisfying experience that brings to life a group of appealing characters and allows them to grow and expand in front of the lens.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Jul 23, 2018
The boys are terrific, particularly Butterfield, who makes something wonderful out of discovering a grilled cheese sandwich and a can of soda
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 6, 2018
The House of Tomorrow doesn't get bogged down in genre trappings but uses them to create something sweet and enjoyable.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Jul 2, 2018
A bit formulaic but well-acted and charming nonetheless, this is a good movie with a great soundtrack...

A tender story about life, death, and punk, "The House of Tomorrow" is that rare kind of teen film that relates both to the kids and the parents alike.
| Original Score: 7/10 | May 26, 2018
Doesn't quite ring true... but [Asa] Butterfield and [Alex] Wolff's terrific chemistry more than makes up for it. Those crazy kids have a bright tomorrow.

Put in its proper context... first-time writer-director Peter Livolsi's story of punk rock meeting R. Buckminster Fuller in small-town Minnesota feels like just another hopelessly musty and dreadfully quirk-heavy, Sundance-style mope-fest.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 23, 2018
Part of what's missing in "The House of Tomorrow" is the acerbic punk spirit that inspires its two heroes, which could have been remedied by a sharper script.
| Original Score: 2/4 | May 23, 2018
It's so amiably predictable that you end up wanting to throw some Motrhead at it, just to see what happens.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 17, 2018
All things considered, The House of Tomorrow is a charmer that will incite a smile from ear-to-ear with each and every scene brimming with hope in the face of downtrodden situations and a world that tells you no.
| Original Score: B+ | May 10, 2018
Clever dramady about sheltered youth who finds his own way into the rebellious world of R. Buckminster Fuller.
| Original Score: 4.5/5 | May 4, 2018
It's not until the end that everything truly lines up, with Fuller positioned as an original punk. But as a film about punk rock, living on the edge and coming into your own, The House of Tomorrow is a strong debut from Livolsi.

A charming if not exactly crucial coming-of-age dramedy about the freedom to be found in three chords.
| Original Score: B | May 4, 2018
A delightful transformation occurs.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | May 2, 2018
The message about shaping your own future becomes muddled by contrivances in this modest crowd-pleaser.
